Steers vs Burger King

There must be close to 100 halaal stores nationwide. May seem a lot but considering there over 500 Steers branches in total, it's not so much.

20% is alot

but yeah im just pulling your strings with the ad :D

who gives a furk when tygervalley canal walk waterfront and town all have halaal steers :D

I had burger king twice while travelling. Totally overpriced compared to steers. Tons of salad etc yet the meat is no more than a mcd junior burger patty. Price of burger was 60 bucks. Was totally ridiculous. Mcdonalds was half the price for more even.

Seriously i wont be going to eat soon. Steers the everyday meal is worth it or spur or mcdonalds. Expect to be paying for the name brand burger king more than for the food you get.

They are all far from good.
They are cheap and cheerful burgers for the unwashed masses.
That being said, BK is better than Steers if only for the reason that they use "better" beef

Steers is k@k and I hope BK is better, we need a decent burger place. McD patties taste like sweaty armpits.

Pleeez let BK be better than the 2 cr@p franchise options we currently suffer.

Mcdonalds -good after a night out at the pub

Steers-if you want a better tasting burger than McD for triple the price

:D

There been 2 major changes to the way Steers prepare their beef patties that could have altered the over all customer exprience for the better/worse.

Not too sure of the timeline but originally our precooked beef patties were kept in a bainmarie in a thin bbq solution which was basically water and Steers BBQ sauce. The purpose of this was to keep the patty moist and hot and for the most part it worked well.

Then due to changing health regulations Steers moved to the current system where the patties are kept in the bainmarie but no longer in a thin bbq solution but rather a stainless steel insert with holes drilled through it in specific areas allowing hot steam into the closed container thus keeping the patties moist, hot and more importantly, at a temperature where bacteria cannot grow IE above 60C. This steaming process tends to dry and dehydrate the patties out over time and doesn't work as well as the thin bbq solution did (IMHO). Within 10 minutes, a cooked patty sitting in the bainmarie can lose up to 6% of its net weight. Patties not sold within an hour of being cooked are discarded.

The most significant change and the one that I reckon may have had an adverse effect for the customer was to the grill and the grilling procedure.
In the past Steers used gas grills which made use of volcanic rock. It's this volcanic rock and the way the meat cooks that gives it its flavour and character.

Now Steers still uses gas grills but they've done away with the volcanic rock. The benefits for the franchisee are significant. The grills reaches optimum temperature a lot quicker as there is no volcanic rock to heat up. Cleaning the grill is a lot easier, as again, there is no volcanic rock to clean. The savings on gas usage as well is significant as burners are hot enough running at 60% as opposed to 85%-100% when using rock.

The downside: the taste profile of the end product is too clean and clinical, almost synthetic and has lost the smoked, char grilled, seasoned character only a volcanic rock based grilling procedure can bring to a cooked piece of meat or patty.

As for BK and their decision to go halaal. I personally believe it's the wrong one. McDonalds went the same route and I can tell you they haven't been nearly as successful locally as they would have liked. 170 branches in almost 20 years is well below their expected rate of growth.

Anyway time will tell...

Why don't you guys send BK a mail asking about bacon?

customercare @whopper.co.za

I already have. No response as yet.

.

This! I have struggled to put my finger on it...but this is what my experience have been with Steers of late. It just does not taste the same. As you said...alsmost clinical and synthetic taste. That delicious juicy and charg grilled taste is gone. :-(

Fresh sweaty armpits on a guy that just came out of gym is actually quite delicious. Not to everyones taste I am sure...but dont knock it till you tried it :-)
How did we progress from meat and buns to this?

EDIT: ok, nevermind.

And that's exactly what McD's patties taste like. If you take a McD's patty out the burger and eat it just on it's own it actually doesn't taste like anything. Cardboard maybe.
I personally don't see this change ending well for Steers. I always thought paying a bit more for a Steer's burger was fine because you got something that actually tasted like um... real chargrilled meat.
And the thought of going to Spur to get that now is bleh...

Arent Steers the main macon culrits? Get real Steers...

Yep. We can thank the muslims and their archaic belief system for the macon epidemic in this country. Out of principle I will not support a fast food franchise that can't provide me with real effing pork.

I still can't understand why food companies bend over backwards to make them happy.

Money!
We may be only +/- 3% of population but that means +/- 3% increase in revenue. end of the day thats all the companys care about. Im sure some where some actuary calculated that they may lose certain customers who want bacon but its not as much as the gain they make from the muslim and not so strict Jews - (the ones that just dont eat pork and cheese burgers but not to woried about the other rules) and I'm prety sure the 7th day adventist dont eat pork either (corect me if im wrong i have only met one so far).

I dont think steers realy thought this FB add through
they forgot the little *

*Not all stores serve Bacon

so which bacon lover here going to compalin to ASA?

Hmm Steers uses real bacon, real potatoes to make chips and real beef, not sure what you mean by get real? I think only the Halaal stores use macon, as that is part of the owners/operators/main customer segment cultural and religious requirements...Just my 2c. I still think that Steers is worth an extra R15 or so for something that tastes 'more real' than McDs. As for Burger King, I havent tried that yet... hopefully soon, I hear its pretty good!

20% is more than a "small" portion.

I you do not agree, please transfer 20% of your yearly income over to my bank account :D

It's a lot smaller than the 100% of all BKs in SA being Halaal.
