Stellenbosch: 3G

go to the vodacom site and select coverage map and enter your location it'll tell if you are or not :P

3G Stellenbosch (or anywhere else for that matter)

If you're thinking of going 3G, think long and hard, and then think some more, and if you decide that you really still want 3G, then go for a prepaid contract, at least until Vodacom sorts out their billing issues.
Once you're locked into a contract you can be ripped off by their billing (as I have been), and there's nothing you can do about it.

In SA, companies like Vodacom can do as they please - there's no recourse for anyone tied into a contract with them.

Check out Hellopeter.com and see how many people are having problems with 3G and no luck with Vodacom.

Don't get caught !

Thanks guys, I think I'll leave the 3G - thing...Stellenbosch is not covered for MTN! Will try something else!

Stellenbosch has been covered for almost 2 years with Vodacom 3G [i jumped on it 2 months after it all launched] .

I would be surprised if MTN doesn't have "something 3Gish" there yet....i'm sure they will have EDGE there by now? [which is almost 3G speed].

As for ADSL in Stellies, the problem you have there is a large amount of people who live there are renting or at least not staying in one place for very long [unless you are lucky and your parents bought a place there]. So 3G is basically the best option [iBurst never had coverage when i was there, might have changed since, otherwise that is a good option too] .

It does not even want to start!!!!!! Windows XP seems to be the problem and on starting up all I get is an "ERROR 22" message....

If it's -windows- not starting, then it's most probably windows. If it's your PC, then it can be alot of things but at least won't be windows. [PC not starting = when you press the "on" button and nothing happens, or it doesn't get past the "memory counting" screen , Windows not starting = everything boots, you actually get to where windows are starting [i.e see the logo or some menu ...].

If it boils down to "is it windows or my hd" , you will probably have to format/reinstall to find out either way. Try pressing F8 while booting and see if you can select the "Safe Load" option to get into windows [again assuming it's windows not starting]

What happened?

Thanks so much it all makes a lot more sense now...

Taking into account what you said, it appears to be my pc which is not starting, since the following is relevant, and I hereby quote you: "PC not starting = when you press the "on" button and ..., ... it doesn't get past the "memory counting" screen." Suppose Ill have to format the hd ha? if so, really uncool... :(

Thanks so much, I really appreciate your help...

MTN said that only certain parts in Stellies are provided for with 3G and that it depends on where you are located... I have decided to change to vodacom instead and Im telling you... it's quite an investment...
:o

Thanks ever so much for your advise...

If your PC does not get past the POST (Power On Self Test) , then something in the hardware is faulty, so no need to format anything (yet).

Open the machine and unplug all the adaptor cards and memory and re-seat them. Give it a good clean while you're at it, blow the dust out or vacuum the machine. Re-assemble and reboot. 99% change it's going to come up :)

You are a shining star! You think that might be reason? Wow, and I truely hope it's only been dusting itself to a standstill and that nothing serious is wrong... Ill take her to the spa!

Thank you thank you!

Ill let you know.
