Stepping up consumer pressure

It's a strange title for this article. Maybe it should be "on" rather than "up".

How many times has this been said? You are only tied into a contract for the device. If you want to cancel your service you can, even though the device is err... (adjective here)... not even I think Neotel should have to carry the cost of it.

They don't have any coverage in Highveld Technopark for some odd reason. Which excludes a ton of businesses.

Real World Speeds?

Do they (Neotel) provide public IPs like an adsl account does? Or do they provide private IPs only? e.g. MTN doesn't hand out a public IP so if somebody was on another provider, they wouldn't be able to connect directly to me. If they do provide a public IP, does it rotate like Telkom's IPs does?

Why don't Neotel provide a 512kbit/s service for R499, unlimited package. Then I would jump ship the first chance I get. I'm asking because, if they say the lower unlimited package can only in theory reach speeds of 152kbit/s then what is the real world speed?

However, Neotel has the upper hand over its competitors, as it's in the middle of a massive network rollout and has the capital on hand to ramp up its services very quickly.

Vodacom and MTN have more money than the Reserve Bank so I don't see how Neotel having capital on hand gives them an advantage.

They aren't dealing with legacy technology like Telkom has to and so that is a big advantage.

They can offer uncapped at 10Mbps for free for ever, but until there is Neotel cover where my home and business is, all this is just bla bla bla bla and mean sqat to me.

Was this an article or a press release from Neotel? IT Journalism in this country lacks anything approaching "incise critique" or "actual research".

So move next to one of their towers :P

But on a serious note, like to get vodacom to setup a tower for better signal, u need like 6 or so company petitions...surely if there's such a large number of business or homes...start a petition?

Might just work

Yeah it's strange , but I have seen them digging in Witchazel Rd (opposite Eco Park Estate) which goes through the Techno Park , I'm hoping they will offer fix lines to Eco Park Estate in Highveld Park soon (as in next year)

Neotel's insistence on 24-month contracts and a limited range of handsets are most likely its biggest drawbacks. Otherwise, its initial offering seems worthy.

Agge nee man! :(

Oh, and the bundled telephone service. I.just.want.internet. Is it so hard? /floggingdeadhorse
