Stop Destroying Videogames

Making it legal in EU to self host and backward engineer the tech, would be a great start.

I see. However this will just force non EU developers to lock down their server source code harder since the legality if people in Europe being allowed to reverse engineer dead games will simply become a big international feud.

Google, Bing, Facebook and even Apple all made that argument.
Sadly EU is too big a market to simply ignore, that is why at the end of the day they all comply and still operate in said market.

EG: With GDPR in place all the websites still work.

While I understand the argument. Do they expect the developer to support the game to eternity. Many times games stop working due to progress in operating system, hardware and drivers no longer working with said games.

problem is they dont want people to do that, as that is piracy they claim constantly,
so what else is left? the next microtransaction riddled game that nobody seems to care too much about?

I mean that is the endgame here, subscription and micro-transactions galore?

maybe they want the new generation hooked to that, instead of what myself and @My_King had where you could mod the hell out of a game (mid east crisis mod???)
and keep it forever.

there is retro games, for long dead consoles like the megadrive genisis,
there is ways to keep games going, but thats not what they want,

they want you spending money constantly and normalize and be addicted to it.

That reminds me to see if I can start a FFXIV private server

Even when people say it costs money to host.

Then allow others to host.

"It costs Nintondo money to host the Eshop"

Seems quite cheap for this oke/group

Here lies the problem:

I would advise you to remove the link as its "promoting piracy."

You don't want MyBB to get sued so rather self-censor.

Do you still play those games or is just to say you have a collection of old games?

Not trying to pick a fight. But I remember enjoy playing Duke Nukem, so I thought hell 20 years later let me try that again. It's wasn't how I remembered it. Sometimes it's just not the same after a few decades.

Some things are best left in the past with your fond memories of it.

Like populous the beginning. I was all “yeah let’s ****en go” to “shyte this game didn’t age well at all.”

But I get it. And I get the argument. I just don’t see this petition doing anything.

@AlphaJohn I can answer that one

@Quicks I am juggling work 25/8. In the few minutes I try to play what I can:

This week.

Unfortunately I can't show all the other old games I play as the N64 and Gamecube does not have history.

Bar the fact that I still play them limited access to old games have other ramifications like students lacking access to past knowledge.

We need an abandonware agreement with the big companies, like a certain time after they stop supporting a game\platform then they need to let that IP go. Let someone else run the eShop if they want.

Especially since we are heading towards everything being an electronic copy.
So many consoles are almost useless without the online services, the hardware is fine but you can't do a damn thing with it.

So let’s say this works and the server code is accessible by consumers. Who’s gonna come to my Fallout 76 lan party?

I dunno I feel like Pirate Software isn't 100% wrong in this. Though downstream of this law will result in a lot less multiplayer and games as service slop.
