So today I got my first traffic fine I was driving in a quite area, the was a car behind me when I got to the stop sign I just yield because it was clear to go. I after that the car behind me started flashing light I just kept driving. Later I stopped as it was clear the person in the car wanted to talk to me. When the guy got out of the car it's a traffic office they gave me R800 ticket for not stopping at the stop sign. He was also driving a private car can I use that to reduce the ticket.

My question how much is the going rate for stop sign, I can't read the guy's hand writing I know I got fined R800. On 30 August 2017 I must appear in court at room B.

The is no excuse for my behavior looking back now not stopping just yielding could have, caused accident if the was other car.

As far as I know there's no legal requirement that a traffic officer can only issue fines when exiting from a marked traffic police car. Such a law would be really stupid. So no, you can't use the argument that it was an unmarked car.

You can reduce the fine by writing a nice letter and saying you thought you had stopped completely. Apologize and don't bring the unmarked car into the argument.

I admit I'm wrong but the were no cars and I'm sure you have yield at a stop sign.

Is it R800 to steep though.

I'd recommend you stated that he was driving badly and you thought he was going to rear end you.

To be honest, no. And I have been driving for over 20 years.

Wow I'm impressed keep it up I also learned my lesson. After the ticket I stopped complete at every stop sign . indeed it's a bad habit

So you mean to tell me you have never yield at the stop sign.

I admit that I sometimes don't, but I don't think that I shouldn't or that there's a law that allows me to, you seem to think you are allowed to, thus meaning you do not know one of the most basic road rules and laws... hence my conclusion that you bought your license.

Seriously I know my english is no up to sketch but go back to my previous post. What does "I admit I was wrong" what does that mean to you.

You really do not have to learn the rules by breaking them first you know! Just how did you get your licence? Who passed you?

In the good olde days, we were taught that you have to come to a dead stop BEFORE reaching the line. Creep up to the line, stop again. Look Left, Look Right and Left again before moving on. And that is how we were tested as well.

Maybe a good study of this manual (or any updated version thereof) would be a very good idea for you.

Maybe lost in translation indeed, but from that it seems you were sure you can treat a stop sign as a yield sign. You might know better now, which is good, but seems you didn't know then.

And in my day they had added "check your blind spots" to the rest of yours...

I yield because the were no cars from right and left hence I didn't completely complete. I'm wrong for doing that I do stop at stop signs, like someone said sometimes we do that when it's not busy. The is no excuse for my behavior but the way you guys carrying on, one would swear you guys have never broke road rules. I was simply asking for going rate for not stopping at a stop sign and if I have to appear in court on the 30 August 2017.

Honestly I did not need this thing of people telling me I'm wrong since I know and admitted that I'm wrong.
