Hi there
Im trying to get a Huawei E220 to work on a client's laptop.

1. Plug the E220 into a confirmed working USB port on a Mecer 755IA1 laptop running WinXP Pro +SP2

2. The "Device Connect" Sound is heard and the devices start installing.
-USB composite device
-Huawei Mass storage USB Device
-Huawei Mobile Connect - 3G modem

3. As the CD-ROM icon in "My computer" changes to display the red VMClite icon, the "Device Disconnect" sound is heard and all 3 devices disappears from Device Management.

4. After another 10 secs the "Device Connect" sound is heard again, the 3 devices again show up in Device Manager, and just as the icon in MyComp goes red, they disconnect again. From here on its just an endless loop of "Ding-Dong" .... "Dong-Ding" ..... :(

Ive tested the E220 on a few other computers and on all of them it works beautifully. I even upgraded to the new Mobile Partner. Works perfectly on all PCs except the bloody laptop.

Ran a "Repair Install" on WinXP, updated Windows, Updated drivers.
Windows, programs and all other USB devices work without problems.

Any other ideas as to what I can do?

Thanks

Which cable you using ? A guy at work has an LG laptop and he has to use the long cable and plug in both the connectors otherwise it does a similar thing to what you are explaining,
?

When I had a problem like this, I went to swap out my USB modem, and when I got back, it worked fine. No more ding dong. Very weird!!

I know this problem. Happened to me quite a few times. Its software related. Try looking for software that uses the cd-rom drive, like Roxio, AnyDVD, Nero 6, PowerDVD and more and uninstalling them.

They wont swop out the modem as they will find no fault with it. As you said it works on other machines.

Also check if you don't have drive letter mapped to the drive letter the USB modem (which is seens as a CD drive) is trying to use.
