Problem: So I wanted to be able to view my satellite TV broadcast on any network/internet capable device in my home. This would allow me to watch TV on my android Tab or laptop in any part of the house, without using a Drifta. In fact, I could even play a console (PS3/Xbox360) game on my laptop (using the wireless controller) in an area within range of the console.

Solutions:
1. The following devices allow you to stream an A/V signal over wifi/ethernet:
- Slingbox
- Belkin @ TV Plus
- HDHomeRun
- Vulkano Flow

2. Use a PC/HTPC with a TVCard. The TV card can be used as an AV signal input. On the PC, use VLC to create a video stream which can be accessed by the remote device (tablet/laptop)

I'm curious, this seems unnecessarily complicated.

Why wouldn't it work if I plugged the AV from the decoder straight into the TV card and have VLC read it and send to the reuesting devices over wifi?

Hi, yes that is exactly what the second solution suggests. Use a PC with a TV card and VLC. Some people may opt for solution 1 as it would be more user friendly.
