I read it.
I also understand that he didn't condone public usage at all, but, being Irish and having the public opinions he has, he must say that there is a place for struggle songs. He doesn't really have a choice. And that is my point.

Steve Hofmeyr on Sunday said he dumped his tickets for the U2 concert in the Jukskei River.

In a comment on Twitter, the Afrikaans icon said he disposed of R5,000 worth of tickets in protest of frontman Bono’s apparent support for ANC Youth League president Julius Malema.

This follows a Sunday Times report that appeared to interpret Bono’s comments about political songs as support for Malema’s right to sing "shoot the boer".

Unfortuantely until the black community stop blaming apartheid and the white community stops blaming the ANC/BEE/AA etc etc there'll always be those gripping so desperately to the past. History should be acknowledged, it shouldn't hung onto.

This I do agree with. We should learn from history...BUT singing about killing a certain people because of their skin, sexual orientation, sex or religion should NEVER EVER be condoned.

Wrong. Julius was pretty emphatic on bringing the song out to the mainstream. The media didn't inspire all the support the song got at the rallies... or with the ANC for that matter!

I can understand people being open minded but this is just being dumb! For heavens sake we have farm murders happening almost twice a week, surely people with a single brain cell can see that it is sensitive? Anyone wanting to sing the song anywhere except in the shower is trying to add fuel to the fire. Singing at rallies is just calling for open warfare as far as I'm concerned. Let them take their wannabee revolutionary soldier attitudes to Zim, where they are actually needed. As for Bono, he knows not what he speaks of, he just speaks.

BEE/AA is part of our history? Wow, that's news to me. Or are you saying that until white people stop having a problem with something presently happening in our country, black people won't let go of the past?

Back on topic: I think ol' Bono should have simply withheld his comment if he doesn't have a clear grasp of exactly what's happening in this country right now (and clearly he doesn't).

Could you find me an article where it's been mentioned that Malema sang the song prior to that rally at the university?
