Students die from cough syrup 'drinks'

The original "lean" wasn't with alcohol though as far as I can recall.
It was codeine+promethazine cough syrup, plus soda, plus some sweets/candy to make it taste better.

It's pretty hard to die from normal "lean" unless you don't measure the cough syrup to make sure you don't go over 5g of paracetemol.

I wonder what dumbass decided to add alcohol.

The last time I was at the local pharmacy I saw groups of boys buying 8 bottles each of codiene-containing cough syrup. They mix it with sprite and alcohol to get buzzed. It's becoming common here because of the USA rappers promoting "lean", "purple drank" and "syrup" in their music videos.
Then you should report that pharmacy.

Anything containing codeine can only be bought over the counter.

When I buy Myprodol ffs, they look up my details on the system and only then sell it to me.

No one will sell anyone 8 bottles of cough syrup that contain codeine...let alone a school boy.

All drugs work better with alcohol.
Even antibiotics.

More effective, yes. But that also means respiratory depression and cardiac vasodilation from the Codeine is greatly increased too, something that these people probably did not expect.

Darwin Awards still a thing? Cos these students are top candidates.

They shouldn't solen ethanol from the labs like we did.. pass us cleva students with that Darwin schit.

For those interested in what happens..

Yep... A high can be fun, but it's important to know exactly how you're getting high too. In the vast majority of cases you're just poisoning yourself, and what you're feeling is basically symptoms of impending death. Of course I'm not saying that drugs are always fatal or something stupid like that. As they say... Anything in sufficient quantities can be toxic. It's just important to know in what playground you're playing. These are powerful substances. Keep within established dosages. Multiplying the dosage does not mean you are multiplying the fun. Any perceived enjoyment is a side-effect of a measured poisoning. People who use drugs should understand this. So that they don't OD.

When I was in school before the rinderpest, we were shown the 'drugs are bad' films.

The only thing I ever took away from them was the segment of a teenage girl who mixed two drugs and ended up in a permanent vegetative state.

Scared the crap out of me at the time, still does.
