Hey mybb

I am going to be studying at UNISA next year (BSc computing).

I have a few queries:
1) I have the option to choose 2 of the 3 Elective Modules, however can you choose to study all 3 electives, as they all interest me?
2) There is a speak of a big Unisa forum on mybb, can anyone guide me to it?
3) Where will I be able to get past papers from?
4) Anyone selling or will be able to provide me text books?
5) and any other tips and guidances will be appreciated

Thanks all

1. I'm not sure. I think you can but the extra one wouldn't count towards your degree. From what I remember you have to choose from the lists and the rules they have.

2. https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/the-unisa-thread.546473/

She is a big one. But lots of people ask and answer questions there.

3. They usually upload a few before exam time to myunisa (if that's still a thing). The alternative is to find people who might have the post exams lying around.

4. There was a place in Durban I used to deal with called provisions. They sold second hand and new text books. I don't know if they still exist or if there are others like it. Gumtree, OLX, and Facebook market place are also your friend.

5. I won't lie. Indian dudes on YouTube carried me through my final year. Doing as many past papers also really helped.

Thanks for your response Mr Norris! Super helpful :giggle::giggle:

@Amy N
You do the compulsory modules first. If you find that you coping fine, you can add on later (You don't want to fail a prerequisite module and be held back). Also note the maximum credits allowed per semester.

The biggest tip for Unisa is that you MUST try collaborate with others in your course for help, assignments and tips. This is very helpful. Form a Whatsapp group, have group sessions or meet up or something. You'll find it much easier if you work with other people.

I am planning to study the same Degree with UNISA next year. I have found a huge Telegram community which is active everyday and they share past question papers.

Download Telegram if you haven't yet and earch for @UnisaGroupsBot

Use the following command to chat to the bot.

/search <Module Code>

You will get a reply with the Telegram group for that module along with Microsoft Teams/Facebook link if available.

Example

/search cos1501

reply

COS1501: Theoretical Computer Science I
┗ Telegram group (https://t.me/joinchat/HPwyMkvseLAbP2Ubd24MVQ)
┗ Facebook group (https://web.facebook.com/groups/1030819527044078/)
┗ Microsoft team https://teams.microsoft.com/l/team/19:[email protected])

You will then click on the link to join the module group.

Current Supported commands
Current commands:
/help
/admin
/feedback
/search <module code>
/examtimetable <module code>
/examresults <module code>

To access the module files (Tutorial letters and past papers) just go to the group info menu and you will see the following:
727086

Click on the files and you will be able to download the files dated back about 18 months.

NB: Avoid sharing links to websites / WhatsApp and sharing contact details on the groups or you will get banned

Rules:
https://unisa-groups.co.za/rules.html

Just to the above, note there is also Telegram for desktop: https://desktop.telegram.org/
Uses near no RAM, pretty fast (or at least I've never noticed lag, even when I installed it on a terrible pentium N3350 notebook) and quite friendly to scaling. Note the mute option for groups if there's too much chatter going on.
