In any conversation about apartheid, white liberals will immediately and loudly bring up the fact that their parents were forced to join the army. As if this fact mitigates generations of economic and political advantage. As if life is a neat game of tag where you can shout "Nix!" and invoke some sort of blanket amnesty, instead of the messy web of power it really is.

I am a white liberal and none of his "points" apply to me.

The general consensus by conservatives [now remember outta the two groups liberal and conservative they are intellectually the dumber group], is that all liberals love Robert Mugabe and are secret communists working with the Soviet Union or Bin Ladin [yeah some of them still think the Soviet Union is around].

The article was actually a satire of DA (ex PFP, DP, SA labour party etc) supporters who blamed apartheid on Afrikaaners (NP) while themselves supporting it 100%. It was a pretty poor attempt at that but it's quite truthful. When you look at many 'white' liberals nowadays they were full blown supporters of previous policies - just had an issue because the guys in power were not of English stock.

The thing is, that the ANC (and black people in general) have seen though the condescending patronising stance of many of these guys.

Theyre ****ing geniuses, which is why they have such a strong Bible Belt rurals that elects officials like GW Bush and and Sarah Palin. Its no different to our ANC rurals that elect Zuma and adore Malema. Same kinda people, same kinda support base.

Of course they are not all stupid, I mean, they voted the Republicans outta powers, but theyre not all that smart. Expect China to over take them in the brains department real soon. The majority of Americans are not conservatives, most of them are liberal and apathetic, but everyone knows the backwards superstitious rural support base is the loudest and dirtiest. It takes a hellavalot lot to get liberals to unite and get rid of trash... it only took 8 years of Bush before America said "fk this ****! we need a black dude!"

English South Africans for the most part hated the Afrikaans administration and how it treated English people like second class white people people.

Sorry, the NATS biggest support areas [as in provinces] voted no. Of course some Nats voted yes [mostly the smarter ones in leadership pushed for change]... but just a few. It came down to coastal areas vs inland areas, with the Yes vote just winning.

The Democratic Party had more traditional posters with the message "Ja vir vrede (Yes for peace)".

57%.. while impressive for Pretoria, aint exactly a landslide victory. 43% of of Pretorians did not want Apartheid to end... and most of them found their way to this forum

Well done to the more liberal Cape Town, which had 85% of the voters voting against Apartheid. The other 15% [Paarl and nothern suburbs] also found their way to this forum and can be found trying to push for Cape Town becoming its own country.

7O% of white people voted yes. So.. whats that. 8O% english 2O% Afrikaans? It looks like the English towns have higher win margins I guess they had less to lose.

While some people did go for a "No" vote, it wasn't because they didn't agree with the result, i.e. everybody should be able to vote, but what the biggest issue was, was the fashion in which power would be transferred. A slower process where the new administration would be properly trained would have been preferred, but this was not considered. This is how I perceived it in any case. I was too young to vote at that stage, by a year or so.
