Suggestions for gigabit network hardware

Hi guys,

So I've been having serious buffering issues streaming Hulu to my PS3 and i discovered that the problem lies with my hopeless D-Link 2750u (after unplugging everything but the PS3 I got a super-HD stream with no problems!)

So I'm tossing the 2750u and I want to build a proper gigabit network which can prioritize my PS3 via QoS.

Any suggestions on what gear I should get with a budget of R2500?

PS; I already have an 2nd gen airport express to handle wifi so my focus is on the Ethernet wired setup.

Thanks! It's definitely worth looking into. I've also spotted the RT-N66U router so maybe it could work to just use my current modem in bridge mode and get the N66 router (comes with N900 wireless) for around the same price as N55 modem/router (N600 wireless).

Any chance my current modem would create a bottleneck even in bridge mode?

Oh, and I'm in VDSL territory so that change may come someday too :D

Hi There,
If you go with VDSL then you are going to need a new modem for the connectivity. How about limping along for now and then spending the money on that connectivity rather than making what you currently have work? Of course the rollout dates are a bit of a mystery.

But if you want to go with it I have heard good reports on the ASUS range of equipment and given FNFal's comments maybe that is what you should go with.

Sooooo I ponied up and bough the RT-AC66U router... Wow is this thing a beast!:cool:

My Hulu now runs perfectly, but beyond that, the router comes with out of the box VPN server capability, personal cloud setup, easy DDNS setup and the cleanest most intuitive interface I've ever seen!

@FNfal, you are my hero of the week; I couldn't be happier!
@Tim the Techxpert, if I do go VDSL then all that'll change is the modem, I'm keeping this router till it's death do us part:whistle:
