(It seems all other discussions are a little outdated, so asking this one again)

I have an iffy Telkom ADSL line and need to replace my ancient Netgear router-modem (with is wired to an Apple Airport, which in turn connects to all devices wirelessly).

I'd like a reasonably priced (R2K?) replacement with fair speed (faster = better) and range (60 m? More? Double-storey building with cast concrete floors), and preferably with USB port to connect an external drive to act as a network drive.

Your thoughts are appreciated! :)

BUT if such a thing is available: an ADSL router-modem that can also be used on fire optic (not sure if this exists?). I only ask as FO might become available in my area, in which I would convert to that the minute it is available (and obviously wants to avoid having to buy another router again).

Many of these (VDSL/ADSL/EWAN) combo types exist - and you can get them at very low prices because people think that ADSL (or VDSL) modems/routers are useless because ADSL is being phased out.

Example: Telkom's very own D-Link DSL-G2562DG
