Sun releases Linux challenger

Solaris will make great web servers, it would definitly be an option. Cant wait to try it out.

Not to sure I would use it as a desktop (even though it does come with compiz), but definitly going to see what else it can do.

Sounds awesome but I fear it might be too little too late. Linux has a lot of software, resources for it. So I think for the average user it won't be a good option but for businesses it will be fantastic.

all good but is it for free, not open source then.....

it just so happens that I have a free partition. If there is a local mirror I will be all over this bad boy.

that 6 months cycle makes me think they have much respect for ubuntu. do they have to make it LIKE UBUNTU to make it happen for them? why?

maybe, ubuntu is better? ;)

"OpenSolaris can be downloaded for free from the opensolaris.org website. Sun will also offer offer paid-for support for OpenSolaris."

Yes it's... free o.O

You'll find that Canonical's business model is in fact exactly the same :p

Most Linux distros from companies run the same model. The software is free. Support is not. Which makes sense.

768 minimum memory... it will be interesting to see what happens, for now ill stick with ubuntu :-)
