Super bad latency with afrihost

After lagging out time and time again on my Axxess uncapped accout, I called there technical support department and can confirm that IS is under a lot of pressure with contention ratios at the moment. He also confirmed that this was only week 2 in a 6 week network infrastructure upgrade period. They are hoping to sort out all the bugs before the official launch of the SWC.

I'm not impressed, but what is my alternative here? Telkom, no thanks

tbh telkom shaped accounts work fine on wow sure i dont get 200ms like i do on afrihost but a constant 300-400ms with out dc's is not bad

Try a WA account if you don't want to try a Telkom account :P

If I was healer or tank I'd have no choice but to change host but as caster dps I'm just gonna ride this one out, always been happy with Axxess.

i dont know what to do now!! I cannot play with 1 second latency. Afrihost are useless at support and keeping their clients happy.
They say there have been no faults since last month and all issues have been resolved. what the ****!!!???

International ADSL access is currently suffering from degredation and increased latency.
Our upstream provider is currently implementing upgrades to the international path.
We sincerely apologise for the disruption in service and we thank you for your patience.

Looks like the support staff at afrihost need to communicate with each other and a bit more information to clients abouts Seacoms screw up would be a plus!
An estimated ETA would be nice!

Just spoke to a tech guy at afrihost and he says that they are aware of the higher latency and that IS are working on the issue which means it might be fixed soon or it might be fixed in 6 months from now lol who knows. Best thing ya can do is keep 2 different accounts so when the one goes on a blink for 6months your not fooked

That is rediculous....Yeah afrihost support sucks. they dont know much, I usually call axxess as I am an ex-subscriber as they dont give the same competitive product as afrihost. axxess has amazing support. sms'in subscribers with the repair work on seacom cable and emailing them. So i defiantly recommend axxess for their support. Also experiencing extreme high latency bouncing from 370 to 2000 to 600ms stable. Cant do much with this kind of latency. facebook - mafia wars lags. Cant play online games overseas as the lag is insane from the 370ms I used to enjoy. this is not really fair to pay money and no product delivered. Sure I can download but then they tell you not to dowload 24/7. I am a serious gamer and want low latency otherwise it pretty useless. Guess it probably better I get back to my studies and maybe in 6months time it will work again. Surely they could make a better plan to have rerouted traffic. Maybe this is not possible with the amount of users. maybe restrict downloads during certain hours and compensate customers for this with lower tarrifs so we can have a faster latency. as many will vouch for wanting lower latency than more bandwidth. I am uncapped - 4meg.

I moved to mweb not one single problem since i moved i am very happy so far

Well tonight wasn't a great night either, 700 ms during a 4 hour raid. I'm going to stick it out for one more week, if no improvement I'll probably go with WA as you guys have suggested. What pings you getting on them at the moment?

im also considering quiting afrihost
whats looking good now in terms of low cost(like afrihost) low latency isp's?
mweb?
Wa?

WA's Titan accounts are relatively cheap too, and their recharge is R15/gb @ 3gb minimum per recharge, so R45/3gb. Not very expensive. Actually any account that is not a prepaid account has recharge feature on it. Prepaid gigs are still R69/gig but they don't expire at the end of the month.

Aye - and the chances of NOT being able to use **1gb** is pretty slim... unless you only do 5mans and 1-2 10mans max with Vent the entire month.
Afrihost is fine for browsing and whatnot, but due to the uncapped offering unfortunately not an option for WoW right now.
It used to be great, so i'm still thinking that after IS sorts their sh*t out it'll be quite good again.

I'm keeping my Afrihost account as backup atm, but right now WA is the way to go for WoW.

Unless you use some kind of lowerping service, I agree. Afrihost just cannot handle playing WoW with any decent latency.

At the moment on my Afrihost account i was getting between 1000-->2000ms so decided to try WA. So far i have been getting between 450-->600ms on WA which is on an unshaped account.

On my Telkom account is was getting about 500-->600ms. Not sure what is going on but the lag to overseas destinations is absolute K@K on all accounts.

Try the WA shaped account. For some reason I had better latency on it than on their unshaped account.

Well the WA shaped/unshaped performs the same. The difference is, when the network gets overloaded, the shaped accounts give priority to the more important traffic, games/browsing over downloaders, which means the shaped accounts will have a good overall experience. The unshaped accounts doesn't give anything priority, so first come first serve. Thus if the unshaped pool gets full of downloaders because of contention ratios, you will get stuffed over.

What most people don't understand, shaping wasn't made to slow people down, it was to improve the overall internet experience!
