Cloete banned for first SA ‘A’ game

Cape Town - Southern Kings flank Chris Cloete has received a one-match ban after receiving his third yellow card of the Super Rugby season.

Cloete appeared before a SANZAAR foul play review committee after being sin-binned for the third time this season during the Kings’ loss to the Lions in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Cloete was subsequently suspended by the foul play review committee following a hearing under SANZAAR Judicial Rule 6.1.

Lions hooker cops 5-week, 1-match ban

Cape Town - Lions hooker Robbie Coetzee has been banned for five weeks after receiving a red card during his side’s 54-10 Super Rugby win over the Southern Kings in Johannesburg on Sunday.

SANZAAR’s foul play review committee on Monday accepted a guilty plea from Coetzee for contravening Law 10.4(a) - Striking with Knee.

Coetzee has been suspended from all forms of the game for five weeks, up to and including July 1, 2017.

However, due to the upcoming Super Rugby break in the international window, Coetzee will only miss ONE game for the Lions - against the Sunwolves in Johannesburg on July 1.

Well, there goes my Springbok captaincy prediction as well… that is until these players return to have an opportunity at hoisting the RWC trophy.

Pro12: South African side Cheetahs receive invitation to join league

A South African club has been invited to join the Pro12, BBC Scotland has learned.

The Cheetahs, based in Bloemfontein, have been approached by the league, which currently comprises teams from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy.

The Pro12 deny extending a formal invitation, but say discussions are underway between stakeholders.

Two South African franchises will be cut from Super Rugby from 2018, amid a downsizing of the competition.

The Cheetahs and the Port Elizabeth-based Kings are widely expected to lose their Super Rugby status.

This speculation is thought to have prompted an invitation from the Pro12 - the league has explored options for expansion in North America and other parts of Europe, as it aims to generate more revenue and tap into new markets.

So the Blues are out of the Super Rugby race (which is a travesty in itself) but I guess there are still AB spots up for grabs, so a lot to play for here. Think the Reds are going to be feeling this one at the final whistle.

Last weekend I did exceptionally poorly with rugby betting but I'm glad to say that this weekend I recovered all my losses from last weekend. Very happy about that. :D

More Super Rugby teams to play Top League teams this year,

The Waratahs are playing the Top League champions, Suntory Goliath, on Sunday, June 11th. This will be an interesting game as both teams has many players pumped into the national squads.

The Panasonic Wild Knights, the Top League second runner-up, are playing the Highlanders on Aug. 11, however these two teams are in a cooperative training program and are well acquainted with each other.

The Blues are playing the Sanix Blues which will be an easy game to bag by the visitors, no date has been given, but it was announced with the Highlanders tour to Japan.

The Rebels are playing Toyota Verblitz on Nov. 12. Shouldn’t be a hard game, but Verblitz has signed better players.

Apparently, more games are to be announced.

Wow, I didn't think the Hurricanes would lose at home. That's quite the surprise. Well done Chiefs! And Cray!
