Sharks are going to have a tough season without the calmness and experience of Lambie as flyhalf and captain. He will be sorely missed. In the big games still to come. Hope one of the young guns shape properly in time.

Kings taking the Sharks right down to the wire there... You Durban boys are pretty lucky Cronje pulled that last penalty.

So, the Sunwolves has signed their 56th squad member, Suntory’s captain and scrummie, Yutaka Nagare. Ignoring that this is a top player, and seeing that Suntory is the reigning Top League champions, this is their 6th scrummie.

The positive here is that the Top League is starting to release their top players to the JRFU which in return will make them available to the national squad.

Pathetic game by the Bulls, don't know what's up with the team, but I can't see them getting anyware this season with the rubbish they are currently dishing up as rugby. Lots of exciting good young players but something's just not working there, maybe it's time to start pointing fingers at the coach? Anyway if they continue like this they will get hammered oversees.

Lions played a good clinical game, pitty the Reds didn't pitch up, they missed a good showing of skill.

Solid game by the Kings, they are improving which is good, would have liked to see them klap the Sharks.

I predicted that the Cheetahs would lose, but I expected them to play a better game.

Is it official?

Sad state of affairs!!

As I understand it there is a pay-out option made available to the Cheetahs by SANZAAR as they are bind to the current Super Rugby deal contractually under some guarantee. The Brumbies and Rebels are apparently in negotiations to enter a partnership, but I do not see the Brumbies having an equal stake in the relationship where the Rebels are the rescuers in ‘private’ capacity.

Cheetahs to get payout if axed

The Cheetahs will be offered a two-year payment from Sanzaar if they are axed from Super Rugby.

Sanzaar is set to reduce the number of teams in the tournament from 18 to 15 next season, with the Kings, Cheetahs and Rebels reportedly in the firing line.

According to the Sunday Times, the Cheetahs would receive a two-year 'sweetener', as they are still a Super Rugby entity under the current agreement.

They should start negotiating to bring in Jimmy Stonehouse as coach. Nollis Marais must go.
Lots of talent but piss poor rugby. Not one ball going through the hands to the wings, just smash smash smash. And even that is done at half pace.

Jake White linked to job in Japan

Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Jake White is reportedly the favourite to become the new head coach of Japanese club Toyota Verblitz.

According to Afrikaans newspaper, Rapport, representatives of the Japanese club visited White in France last week to finalise his appointment.

White currently coaches Top 14 club Montpellier but his tenure there will end when the current European season concludes.

Stormers understrength for Singapore trip

The DHL Stormers will be travelling to Singapore to play the Sunwolves in their fourth Vodacom Super Rugby match of the season on Saturday without their Springboks and with several other players sidelined with injury.

The Stormers had to fight back just to draw when they played the Japanese team at the same venue last year so there is no question of them underestimating the Sunwolves as they go out in quest of what would be their fourth win in four starts in their campaign thus far. However, they do have to rest their Boks at some stage, which is why Eben Etzebeth, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Frans Malherbe weren’t considered for selection.

...

DHL STORMERS TOURING SQUAD: Bjorn Basson, Kurt Coleman, Jan de Klerk, Dan du Plessis, Robert du Preez, Dewaldt Duvenage, Rynhardt Elstadt, JC Janse van Resnburg, Oli Kebble, Siya Kolisi, Dan Kriel, Dillyn Leyds, Wilco Louw, Godlen Masimla, Bongi Mbonambi, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Caylib Oosthuizen, Ramone Samuels, JD Schickerling, Seabelo Senatla, Frans van Wyk, Chris van Zyl, EW Viljoen, Cobus Wiese, Damian Willemse.

Cooper handed three-game ban

Reds flyhalf Quade Cooper has been banned for three Super Rugby games following his sending off for a dangerous tackle against South Africa's Lions at the weekend.

Cooper, who was fortunate to avoid being sanctioned for a no-arms tackle earlier in the game, was red-carded early in the second half for a high tackle on Janse van Rensburg as the Reds crashed to a humiliating 44-14 loss at Ellis Park.

The competition's governing body, Sanzaar, said in a statement that Cooper's tackle merited a six-week ban but that its judicial committee reduced the sentence after taking the player's disciplinary record into account.

"With respect to sanction the Judicial Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks," Sanzaar said.

The player is therefore suspended for three weeks, up to and including Saturday, 8 April 2017."

Cooper will miss the Reds' games against the Jaguares, Hurricanes and Brumbies, but will be available to face the Southern Kings at the Suncorp Stadium on April 15.

Crucial games to be missed by their pivot. Strange how the committee ignored Elstadt’s transgressions as the argy-bargy turned physical was warranted to be disciplined, also noting his general discipline. Elstadt in my opinion should have received an 4 week suspension, reduced to 2.

Stormers dealt another injury blow

Cape Town - Stormers centre Huw Jones has torn his hamstring playing for Scotland in the Six Nations and will undergo surgery in London.

It is a huge blow for the Cape Town-based franchise, and it means that Jones will not be able to train for four to five months as he joins fellow Stormers midfielders Juan de Jongh and Damian de Allende on the sidelines.

There goes the mid-field contingency plan.
