http://www.timeslive.co.za/sport/ru...lesson-and-wont-underestimate-Sunwolves-again

Stormers have learnt their lesson and won't underestimate Sunwolves again

"We know how tough the Sunwolves can be on home turf‚ so it will be crucial that we maintain our focus for 80 minutes if we are to get the desired result‚" Fleck said.

Singapore is not a home turf for the Sunwolves, not to mention that it is an eight-hour flight from Japan to Singapore for the Sunwolves. Singapore is nothing other than a failed marketing gimmick for a very niche rugby market. It has the money, but it does not have the TV ratings or the match attendance. Singapore is on the map for a compromise of the failed inclusion of the Asia Pacific Dragons in 2016 as the JRFU won the bid for the licence.

Obi trades in Bulls for Cheetahs
http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/SuperRugby/obi-trades-in-bulls-for-cheetahs-20170322

Cape Town - Nigerian-born wing Luther Obi has left the Bulls and joined the Cheetahs.

The Bulls confirmed on Wednesday that the 23-year-old had left the union for "another opportunity", but we didn't have to wait long to find out what that opportunity was with the Cheetahs confirming the signing on their website.

Obi was a member of the SA U-20 side that did battle at the 2013 IRB Junior World Championships, scoring four tries in five appearances at that competition.

He joined the Bulls from the Kings in 2015, but a combination of injury and competition for places has seen his game time limited in Pretoria.

He will be available immediately for the Cheetahs, who have won two of their four Super Rugby matches this season.

The Cheetahs take on the Sharks in Bloemfontein this Saturday.

This benefits both the Cheetahs and Obi. Hopefully Obi stays injure free.

12. Derek Carpenter (Suntory Sungoliath)
13. Timothy Lafaele (Coca-Cola Red Sparks)

I don't think that it is wise to disrupt the backline combinations each time. I'm not the coach... I’ve added the player’s Top League clubs to indicate how distant it is in quality and level, those knowing the Top League.

There may be chance in beating the Stormers, the Japanese is currently owning the scrum. Oh well...

Sharks name Bosch at flyhalf for Cheetahs
http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/SuperRugby/sharks-name-bosch-at-flyhalf-for-cheetahs-20170323

Durban - The Sharks' team named to play the Cheetahs in a round five Super Rugby clash in Bloemfontein has been bolstered by the return of a number Springboks who were rested last weekend against the Kings.

Beast Mtawarira returns to the starting line-up along with fellow Springbok Coenie Oosthuizen in a rejigged front row while Lwazi Mvovo is back on the wing in the final of three Springboks who missed the Kings match due to the enforced Rest Protocol.

Curwin Bosch, meanwhile, has been giben the No 10 jersey after the struggles of rookie Benhard Janse van rensburg against the Kings while Frenchman Clement Poitrenaud returns at fullback.

Cobus Reinach has been backed once more at scrumhalf.

Born, raised and schooled in the Free State before picking up his junior rugby with the Sharks, Reinach warns of a Cheetahs side that has added a few strings to their attacking bow under coach Franco Smith.

“They have always played attacking rugby, but now they attack with different lines, so they are quite unpredictable,” Reinach told the Sharks website.

“What we can expect is a lot of attacking rugby which will keep us on our feet; it’s quite a good challenge.

“The Cheetahs team is a strong outfit with some very exciting players who can bring anything to the party.”

With the two teams sitting in a similar position after last week – where the Cheetahs lost to the Jaguares and the Sharks didn’t perform as well as they wanted to – Reinach expects a huge match on Saturday, both teams with a point to prove.

“Both teams need to put in a big performance, we’re expecting a huge performance from them, as well as one from us. We need to lift our standards,” he said.

Teams:

Cheetahs

15 Clayton Blommetjies, 14 Sergeal Petersen, 13 Francois Venter (captain), 12 Nico Lee, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Fred Zeilinga, 9 Shaun Venter, 8 Henco Venter, 7 Oupa Mohoje, 6 Paul Schoeman, 5 Francois Uys, 4 Justin Basson, 3 Johan Coetzee, 2 Torsten van Jaarsveld, 1 Ox Nche

Substitutes: 16 Elandre Huggett, 17 Charles Marais, 18 Tom Botha, 19 Carl Wegner, 20 Niell Jordaan, 21 Tian Meyer, 22 Niel Marais, 23 Rayno Benjamin/Clinton Swart

Sharks

15 Clement Poitrenaud, 14 Kobus van Wyk, 13 Lukhanyo Am, 12 Andre Esterhuizen, 11 Lwazi Mvovo, 10 Curwin Bosch, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Tera Mtembu (captain), 7 Jean-Luc du Preez, 6 Jacques Vermeulen, 5 Ruan Botha, 4 Etienne Oosthuizen, 3 Coenie Oosthuizen, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Tendai Mtawarira

Substitutes: 16 Stephan Coetzee, 17 Thomas du Toit, 18 Lourens Adriaanse, 19 Stephan Lewies, 20 Daniel du Preez, 21 Michael Claassens, 22 Jeremy Ward, 23 Garth April

Cape Town - Cheetahs coach Franco Smith has named his team for Saturday’s South African Super Rugby derby against the Sharks in Bloemfontein (17:15 kick-off).

Captain Francois Venter returns to the side for the first time this year, having been sidelined with an ankle injury.

He partners Nico Lee in midfield in a much-changed Cheetahs outfit from the one which went down 41-14 to the Jaguares in Buenos Aires last week.

Sergeal Petersen has recovered from a knee injury and returns to the right wing position, while the fit-again Raymond Rhule is also back at left wing.

Shaun Venter also returns at scrumhalf in place of Tian Meyer, who captained the Cheetahs last weekend.

Up front, there is a new front row in Ox Nche, Torsten van Jaarsveld and Johan Coetzee, while Justin Basson replaces Armandt Koster in the second row.

Paul Schoeman is back at flank, with Henco Venter moving to No 8 and Niell Jordaan dropping down to the bench.

Yeah, it's a grey area, no doubt. The Force player had his hands on the ball (hence, downward pressure) but it could be argued it wasn't an intentional move to dot the ball behind the line.

Game fizzled a bit, unfortunately. Started off well and became a scrummaging drudge fest.

Rugby: Toyota appoint 2007 World Cup winning coach White

ake White, the 2007 Rugby World Cup winning coach with South Africa, has been appointed as the new head coach for Toyota Verblitz, the Top League side announced Friday.

The 53-year-old joins the side from French club Montpellier, who he has been coaching since 2014. He previously coached the Brumbies and Sharks, following his three-year stint with the Springboks, which culminated with South Africa beating England 15-6 in the final in Paris.

White was named IRB Coach of the Year for the second time following the tournament, which saw White enlist the services of Eddie Jones as a technical assistant.

Verblitz also announced that White would be supported by a plethora of specialist coaches.

John Muggleton will head up the defense, Tai McIsaac, who spent time with both Honda Heat and Toyota Industries Shuttles, is the new set piece coach, former Teikyo University assistant coach Craig Stewart takes charge of counter attack and skills, while ex-Edinburgh coach Nick Scrivener remains as attack and restarts coach.

Among the new players to join Toyota is Japan sevens star Jamie Henry.
