Super Rugby 2018

Looks like the bulls have to go back to what they know best, kick up n unders and hope for the luck of the bounce.
 
My two take-aways from the game so far...

First, did the entire Bulls squad not see that shallow pool of blue paint? Seems they all fell into it face-first, half ruining their brand new white kit.
Second, I'm pleased to see 80's porn star, Dirk Diggler has kept his pornstache *and* found a new career as the kicker for the Sharks.
 
Jessie Kriels try overturned, speaking of which, do the IRB or SARU do random Roid spot checks on players?

Yep. Thank goodness this weekend's Super Rugby is done. It was a miserable one for me as a supporter and SuperBru player.

At least there is the TPC in Golf to follow now. Nothing can go wrong there :p

According to the Stuff website, the tourists are stripped of all their All Blacks for the fixture in Durban due to a clash with a national camp, and when injuries are also taken into account it means the Chiefs are going to be without a total of 20 players, from their originally contracted list of 38.

Each of the Kiwi Super Rugby team coaches are under instruction to rest their All Blacks from two games before next month's Test series against France, and All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has also felt it imperative to assemble his national representatives - in North Island and South Island groups - to give them added preparation.

I don't think the Chiefs (or Blues) have had anywhere near to a full strength squad the whole year.

Big blow to not have McKenzie, Lienert-Brown, Harris or Retallick in your team, though.

Haha, good luck. The Sharks should have the team to beat them, despite Fraser's best efforts. We weren't good enough last week.

Originally the game was meant to be refereed by young New Zealand referee Brendon Pickerill, but this was changed on Tuesday by Sanzaar to local referee Federico Anselmi, who will now take charge of the match in Buenos Aires.

Rugby: Sunwolves looking to turn the heat up on Stormers

The Sunwolves' game against the Stormers at Mong Kok Stadium on Saturday will be something akin to survival of the fittest if Friday's conditions are anything to go by.

The two teams trained early in the day at the match venue -- as Hong Kong prepares to host its first-ever Super Rugby game -- with the mercury already in the high 30s C and humidity close to 80 percent.

And with the game to kick off at 1:15 p.m. local time, things are likely to get even hotter with both sides desperate for a win.

"The heat will be a real factor," Sunwolves coach Jamie Joseph said. "It will be a real leveler and the team that uses the ball the right way in these conditions can apply pressure."

His Stormers counterpart, Robbie Fleck, agreed. Fleck hoped the extra days his team have been in Hong Kong -- they flew in on Monday while the Sunwolves arrived Wednesday -- will hold them in good stead.

"We have been training on (an artificial) pitch and the players had to put ice in their boots. We've been cooked from above and below," the former Springbok said.

As I understand the Mong Kok Stadium has a natural grass pitch but may turn over in a hot climate. Neither the Stormers or the Sunwolves has played rugby here so the set-pieces may prove troubling.

It may be hotter tomorrow in Kowloon, but the humidity will be lower. Nonetheless, the Japanese sides has proven to be more enduring under these circumstances. Damn, the weather changes quick in East-Asia.

I expect a kicking game…
 
Unbelievable solo effort.

On a side note why the hell was a fixture approved for Hong Kong this time of year? Clearly player well being isn't a priority.

What the hell, Stormers butchered that lineout.
