Meh, these warmups are hardly a indicator as to what to expect. These matches are simply a tool. This was only hyped due to SuperHero Sunday.

The Sunwolves on Tuesday announced the signing of former Japan international forward Luke Thompson for the upcoming Super Rugby season.

Playing primarily as a lock and sometimes as a flanker, the New Zealand-born Thompson earned 64 caps for the Brave Blossoms following his international debut in 2007.

The 37-year-old, who plays domestic rugby with the Osaka-based Kintetsu Liners, has joined the Sunwolves for training camp in Australia ahead of their season-opening match against the Sharks of South Africa on Feb. 16.

I wish him the best, this guy retired twice now IIRC. The Sunwolves needs players, their entire Brave Blossom training squad is locked up in RWC camp and some will only be available by round 6.
 
I see Garth April has had his contract with the Bulls yanked as he failed his medical. Apparently he needs a shoulder op which will put him out for between 4 & 6 months.

That's unfortunate. Must suck to require medical care that'll put you out for so long and you don't even have a job to come back to.

Pretty tricky for teams, too, I guess.

New Zealand is facing a bit of a player exodus after this year.

Liam Squire off to Japan.
Jordan Taufua off to England.
Nehe Milner-Skudder off to France.
Ben Smith off to France.
Kieran Read will likely retire from tests and head to Japan.
Ryan Crotty, Matt Todd and Luke Whitelock are off-contract so might also make the move.
Beauden Barrett, Same Whitelock and Brodie Retallick might opt to take sabbaticals.

The Sunwolves are in a strange state. The current squad is a foreign legion, all of their primary national players and management team are away on a RWC preparation camp.

Jamie Joseph and Tony Brown spent their time analysing Ireland and Scotland for their pool games, also attending England's training sessions. This means that the warm-up and training schedule for the Sunwolves are solely handled by Scott Hansen.

Tony Brown and the rest of the nationals will only return for active duty by their sixth game of the season.

If the Sharks lose, a lot of questions will need to be asked. I expect the Sharks to bag a comfortable victory.
