I love how so many start posting on this thread mightily impressed with themselves that they’re doing
this, when in reality, their actual knowledge of this Surtie matter is either very limited or extremely misdirected…
…and then invariably end up doing
this! I understand that most of them have never had access to large sums of money before, or even have a firm grasp of what a large sum of money is.
For those of you who have been waiting so many years for a measly R2,5m…would you like to know how long that will last you if you’re hoping that it will be the answer to all your hopes and dreams? Well, at the rate most of you are planning to spend it…probably about 3 months. If you’re lucky.
Don’t forget that if whoever you receive this money from doesn’t settle the donations tax with SARS, you can expect that amount to be decreased by 20% (if you’d prefer not to have SARS hounding you). This would leave you with R2m.
Now consider the fact that a relatively decent 3 bedroom home in a lower-middle class suburb starts at about R3m, then you’re already a third short of funds to secure your ‘dream home’.
Factor in the fact that an average middle class household needs (conservatively speaking) approximately R30k per month to function effectively without entertainment or the overseas holidays most of you are planning, then that doesn’t add up to much of a life-changing experience now, does it?
I would suggest that none of you give up your day jobs if this is what you were hoping to achieve with a R2,5m windfall. This is not a lot of money. This is not even the annual salary for the owner of a moderately successful SME
As for this bit here? My brother…PLEASE!!
