***SURVEY IS CLOSED***

Summary

For the automated summary (generated by Google Docs) you can click on the link in the section below. The summary posted here was created based on those results.

Survey Statistics

  • The survey ran from 29 March (~ 17h00) to 5 April (~11h00);
  • During that time 65 people filled it in;
  • out of this, 32 people chose Mweb as their ISP;
  • and 24 people decided on Afrihost;
  • the remainder chose either Axxess, Imagine or OpenWeb;
  • No one filled in the survey for Nexus.

Who's the best ISP?

I know everyone is interested in this, so I made sure to put it early on. ;)

***Remember: The survey was created to determine which ISP delivers the best quality regardless of the price. Cheapest isn't always the best!

According to this survey, it boils down to these two ISP's: Afrihost & Mweb. The winner I would say is Mweb whereas Afrihost comes in at second place. The last question "Would you recommend this ISP & particular option to someone?" is extremely important and 4 people chose "No, not even if they are desperate" as their answer for Afrihost. Mweb on the other hand, did not have any such responses. Thus, Mweb is the winner!

Now I am sure that many will post and state that I cannot simply award Mweb 1st place based on 4 people or one particular question - it does sound very short-sighted, I agree - yet I do have my reasons and here they are:

  • 65 people are unfortunately not enough for a proper analysis and so I decided to compromise.
  • The last question of the survey can be regarded as a statement based on the previous answers given. If the previous answers were given in a negative light then it stands to reason that the person would not recommend the ISP.

In the end, the overall response is the one that counts. The finer details (such as the quality of the customer service) are contributing factors toward this response. So in short, if you want to make a decision based on this survey, look at the overall results and then look at why these results were achieved.

This is my analysis, of course, and my reasoning could be seriously flawed. What you make of this is up to you. The results are still available for scrutiny by clicking the link in the section below.

Conclusion

Sadly this survey cannot really be conclusive, because too few people filled it in and the rapid changes in the broadband market made it outdated. Does this mean that the survey is useless? I don't think so. This survey gave us a brief overview of the impact and the response these new uncapped packages had on consumers. And I am sure that for many the data gathered will help them in making a good decision. (read the disclaimer, though)

In the future, when things have stabalised, we could have another survey and see how things have progressed. Until then, please post your comments and questions in this thread.

Thank you to all the people who took the time to complete this survey.

Disclaimer

I am in no way affiliated with MyBroadband or any ISP. I am merely a consumer and user on the forums trying to make the best choice for uncapped internet while at the same time trying to help others in making the best choice too.

Please do not regard the results as absolute. This is a reference. If you go out and purchase the package and you are unsatisfied with their (the ISP) service then that is your problem. Neither myself, nor MyBroadband or any person who filled in this survey can be held liable for any damages, loss of revenue etc. you incurred based on the information from this survey.

Also completed!

Thank you very much. :D

I would just like to mention to the people reading this thread that I am not so selfish as to expect the community to do this just for me. Everyone can see and benefit from the results. The more people that complete the survey - the better!

Why no SAOL on the list?

Last time I checked, those on the list were the cheapest. I could be wrong, so I'll add SAOL for next time if people want it it. Sorry, but I cannot change/add them anymore. (See F.A.Q. in OP)

Bump

Wow! Only 17 people so far have filled in the survey? Come one people! The more the merrier and the better the data for everyone!

Still, the current results look interesting. It appears that the majority of people chose MWeb as the ISP and they seem quite positive about it....

Bump!

25 people so far. Seems like MWeb is in the lead. Almost all of the people who use them as an ISP have said something positive. Let's see if we can get feedback for the others as well!

Thanks!

Bump!

39 responses and counting! This is going a bit slower, than I had hoped, but I am grateful to the people who have taken the time to fill it in. Those who have can testify that it is an extremely short survey. Though the results generated show all the different packages the actual survey will most likely take you only 5 minutes. Unless you have more than one uncapped account which I seriously doubt. ;)

Scanning through the results has once again proved quite interesting. Mweb, regardless of the amount of people, is still receiving positive feedback while Afrihost has managed to get a mixture. Responses to Axxess and Imagine's uncapped packages doesn't seem too bad either.

As always, the more people filling this in, the better the results be!

**Note: I will only bump this thread once per day until the end of the survey on Sunday.

Wrong time for this survey. Report is going to be skewed. Too many bruized egos and such and as a result you may get biased results. IMPO

This:

Q: Isn't it a bit quick to make something like this?
A: Maybe, but I feel that with all the packages available it has become quite necessary to bring everything into perspective. Besides, I can always create another one in a month's time and do a comparison.

Yes, I agree that it might be a bit quick to create a survey and the possibility of the results being biased are high. One can argue that in any survey you are bound to have some or other person who is biased e.g. a survey on the preferred petrol station or company that one uses (Caltex, BP, Shell etc.) might have a person who despises Caltex simply because they broke his car keys while opening the petrol tank.

In spite of this possibility, however, I believe that the pros in doing this survey far outweigh the cons. And as I said, there is always the next survey when things have "settled down" a bit for a more accurate reflection of people's experiences.

Bump!

47 responses (and counting)!

I am surprised that so few people have filled in the survey. If you haven't done so yet, please post your feedback in this thread. I would love to know what I am doing wrong a.k.a. constructive criticism. ;)

As always, thank you to those who have already completed it.

Last bump!

If you haven't filled in the survey yet, please make sure to do it before 17h00. I'll be closing it at that time and, a bit later, I'll also post a summary of the results in this thread.

Closed the survey and added a summary of sorts.

Once again, thank you to all the people who took the time to fill it in.
