SUV choices

Hi

I have a 2011 X1 that I would to trade in for another SUV. I need some help in ideas at the moment the list has the Jeep Compass and th Hyundai IX35. I also don't want to put in a lot more than the trade in on the X1. With the X1 I am used to a the full motor plan which I see some of the other cars dont have. How expensive is a IX35 to service and for parts, etc?

The car will be used as the family car so would like decent space and also something that doesn't break and is cheap to run and service.

Any ideas?
 
Well these are more crossovers than actual SUV's. I'm playing with the idea of getting one myself (my inner responsible adult is stopping me but losing his grip). I haven;t seriously looked into it but the Subaru XV (or Forrester maybe) and the new Hyundai Tucson (coming this year, IX35 replacement) looked good.

My only problem with the Subaru is that if something does go wrong somewhere far away from a big city with dealerships, what do you do?

NOTE: I read the new Tucson will have slightly less boot space than the current IX35 so getting an IX35 second hand might be a better bet. as for parts, I own an Elantra and only thing I ever had to replace was the steering wheel (peeling), took about three weeks for it to arrive which I thought was a bit long but not real problems other than that.

2nd hand X1
 
Stay away from Hyundai. Go with the Jeep.
I also really enjoy the Audi SUV's

I have the Honda CRV which I'm very happy with. It's the 2L basic one and I get 8L / 100km which is not bad for an SUV. The load space is huge and it's got all the gadgets I need. The only thing I would have liked is leather seats but I believe the recently released face lifted model have them. Services so far have been covered by the maintenance plan so I don't know how affordable it will be out of plan.
 
Nothing wrong with Hyundai.

What about the new Toyota Rav 4? It is huge, looks decent and has got some good features. For once it is not badly priced for a Toyota. I have seen some with low mileage for like R270k.

I don't think many of the people who drive SUV's need the extra ground clearance or the pseudo off road capability.

A A4 or 3Series or Accord Station wagon will beat the crap out of any of the SUV's mentioned as a family car. The only one mentioned that comes close is the FRV, but I reckon you get more car with a wagon.

Agreed, station wagon handles nicer as well. But you know it looks like a station wagon, the wife wanted none of that.
