Suzuki Alto GLS

Im looking at getting a car for the wife, something light and nippy... and affordable.

Im busy looking at two options:

1) Suzuki Alto GLS (2010 model) for R89 000 (7000km on the clock) - This car still has 2 years of service warranty on it)
2) Fiat Panda (2007 model I think) for R75 000 (80 000km on the clock)

The GLS looks way better than the Panda and is more light on fuel so I find it appealing, but someone mentioned the 996cc engine might get over worked if say I travel between cities and have the aircon on.

I was told the Alto actually has a Toyota engine in it?

I know nothing about cars... so I am not sure which way to go with this. What do you think?

Suzuki is great but lets hope they don't pack up shop in SA again, doesn't Mccarthy bring them in? Panda is a cool car for a female i'd get a fiat with less on the clock.

Walking around the car lots today, I did not notice that car. Looks nice though.

Purely from a safety perspective, I'd steer clear from the smallest of the small cars - the Suzuki Alto, the Hyundai i10 and Atos, the Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107, the Kia Picanto etc. I'd much rather have a more substantial car that's a year or 2 older than one of these little shoeboxes.

Nope they are here for the long run and Suzuki Auto South Africa brings them in.
