New Suzuki S-Presso: full range and pricing confirmed for South Africa

Suzuki Auto South Africa has released full details about its new budget-beating S-Presso range, which comprises five variants at launch.

When we broke the news the fresh-faced line-up would kick off at R134 900 – making the base model the cheapest new car in South Africa, undercutting the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 Nxt and Renault Kwid – details about the rest of the range were scarce. But now we know there are three trim levels and two transmission options, with the range topping out at R160 900.

The base GL model’s standard features list includes items such as electric windows up front, air conditioning, a multi-information display and rear parking sensors (but seemingly no audio system), while the GL+ variant (for an extra R5 000) adds a seven-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well as a reversing camera.

You’ll find the S-Edition derivative at the pointy end of the range, distinguished by silver highlights in the grille, silver skid-plates (fore and aft) and black plastic cladding for the wheel arches and on the lower sections of the doors (which furthermore gain a large silver panel insert). Inside, S-Edition models feature yet more silver detailing on the centre console, air conditioning louvers and door panels.

Top half looks good. Bottom half not so much. Definitely needs much bigger wheels to fill the glaringly empty wheel arches and probably slightly lower suspension...it seems stupidly high for such a small blocky car.
 
There is a critical omission in the features but it has not been mentioned.
i posted it and then decided to delete.
Let's see who picks it up.

Subjective styling aside (you could always fit aftermarket alloys if the wheels really bother you), I think it may be a very good car. Has all the features one would need plus comes with decent safety features like 2 airbags and ABS. Since it shares the same platform as other Suzuki's I would assume it should be as safe as most of them (3 Stars is what the Ignis and celerio has so I'd guess the S-Presso has the same)

I think this car has the potential to push Suzuki into the 2k sales per month bracket, it's well specced, decent dealer network, good dealer experiences plus it has the SUV styling cues people are going crazy for.
I like it and wouldn't mind owning one, plus Suzuki has a better reputation than Renault and Datsun soo it's a no brainer if you ask me.

I notice 5 missing features:

1. No Rear Wash / Wipe
2. No Heated Rear Window
3. No electric outside mirrors
4. No 60/40 split rear seats
5. No wheel arch cladding / protection

Off-road’ and ‘SUV’ are two terms that go hand in hand but in reality, most SUVs rarely leave the road.

In the remote, hilly areas of India, it’s little hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Alto that are being used to travel through unforgiving terrain. Ultimately, it has been facing challenges it was never built for.

Now, though, we have alternatives like the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Renault Kwid. At their core, they follow the formula of the Alto but offer more ground clearance and bring a little more sophistication to the game.

But does that give them what it takes to beat the original champion of the cause?

 
It's quite nice, but can definately feel and see the cheapness. I would be concerned about how it will hold up.

Yeah for sure I agree, but at the price point you are getting close to a swift rather...

Edit: I am being a bit generous yes but with the special it isn't that far off

These Suzuki guys are clever. They're meeting some of the most important needs in SA... between this, the more sporty swift, and the Ertigo. Their numbers should be climbing - I know the Ertigos are. I love the ground clearance on this. So important on our roads.

180mm is too much though, it sounds unsafe for a car without stability control.
