The supposed cost of R43-million p.a. for the Cape Town stadium is just another example of the smoke and mirrors deception we are being subjected to. The cost of the stadium was R4.4-billion, and even at a very conservative interest rate over a very long term that amounts to approximately R1-million per day just to cover the building costs, not the ongoing running and maintenance costs. Regardless of which way one spins how the stadium was funded (i.e. state, province, etc), we, the ratepayers and taxpayers, ultimately foot the bill.

It's been six weeks now since the last game was held at GreenPoint, in that time it should have taken R42+ million in gate money and sponsorships just to keep itself afloat. Has it? . . .

New Zealand is building one new stadium in Dunedin, the Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza replaces Carisbrook. The Otago Highlanders Super 14 franchise will move from Carisbrook to the new stadium.

All the other stadiums in New Zealand will be upgraded for the world cup. Stadium sizes range from 17000 capacity in Invercargill to 60000 capacity in Auckland.

Also I remember a big fight about building Stadium New Zeland instead of upgrading Eden Park. Plus I'm sure people will love watching rugby on your guys' cricket fields. This will likely be the last WC with small stadiums, the next hosts are England and then Japan, and both are using much bigger stadiums.

And its a joke of a WC. The last of its kind since England and Japan are hosting next.

NZ considered moving out of the residential stadium mess in Eden Park and to the waterfront but they missed a major opportunity and decided to stay in the residential area.

Actually I am ignoring the point!

Bottom line is too much money has been and will be wasted on the "Stadia" that were built for the WC. This should never have been hosted in a third world country in the first place. The Taxpayers money should have been used to develop infrastructure that could have presented long term growth.

In that case... If WP rugby was given the stadium.. then they should go for it.. and also cover the cost.. the least they could do

The stadium won't be given to the WPRU this isn't 1920, teams need to pay to rent stadiums now, and not the R100 per month deal that many rugby teams have. WP will likely move, but ata rate which works for them and SAIL/Stade de France.
