Switch 2 thread

apart from the screen size the console is meh, but that screen size though

Star Wars Outlaws hit under 20fps on steam deck. Was also a PS5/Xbox exclusive.

Somehow it’s running on Switch 2. The hardware is seriously impressive. Only negative is no OLED but that will come later as $449 is pretty high already.

The power of Nvidia vs AMD, we're only going to see that the Switch 2 could've been when ARM PC processors with Nvidia graphics are launched

$450 (R12 999...?) big ones... I'm tapping out on getting a launch system (for now). Games at ~$80-$90 (R1 999-R2 400...?) eehhhh... The price threw ice cold water on any enthusiasm I had. Add to that the upgrade to a new SD card format, new Pro Controller, Switch 2 Edition (the FPS and resolution-only stuff should have been free) tax...

If I get this thing, I can see myself becoming F2P-only gamer.

Can always buy it and pay to upgrade you old games /s

Lucky I have access to other console where 3rd party games are cheaper. Only gonna look at select few on Switch 2 for now.

Metroid 4, Daemon X def among the ones I will be getting.

I am with you guys on this and the price.
Looking at playing Pokemon ZA Switch 2 version on release day.

I can wait.

My CC is 1/8 of what it was, no new debt for me.

Modded my 2nd Gamecube over the weekend with PicoBoot. No need for GC games on Switch.

I also want to see what Witchbrook is about.

Nintendo Switch 2 specs revealed, available June 5

Nintendo has finally revealed all the details of its upcoming Switch 2 console. The updated model is fully rebuilt from the ground up and improves over every aspect of its predecessor.

Starting with the design, the Switch 2 is larger overall, measuring 271.8mm wide and 114.3mm tall. However, it remains the same 13.9mm in thickness. The entire unit with the controllers weighs 399g. The new design has a much bigger kickstand at the back that allows for a much larger range of movement. There are also two USB-C ports, one on the top and one on the bottom.

The Switch 2 comes with the new and improved Joy-Con 2. These don't have the prominent red and blue color scheme of the original Joy-Con and instead only use the colors as highlights while being predominantly black. The Joy-Con 2 use strong magnets instead of a rail system to attach to the console. They also have larger SL/SR buttons to make them more comfortable when using a single controller at a time. The analog sticks are also larger.

The biggest new feature of the Joy-Con 2 is that they can individually or together be used as a mouse. This enables additional functionality within games, where you can use one or both controllers as a mouse as long as the game offers support for this feature. Nintendo showcased existing Switch titles with additional mouse support as well as new titles that exclusively relied on using the Joy-Con 2 in mouse mode.

The Switch 2 has a new display. It's larger at 7.9-inch in size and features an increased resolution of 1920x1080. The refresh rate has been bumped up to 120Hz and there's also support for VRR. Unfortunately, this is still an LCD panel, which makes the addition of HDR10 support underwhelming. No doubt there will be an OLED model in the future sold at a higher price considering the original Switch also has a separate OLED version.

The Switch 2 also has improved video out support thanks to a new dock. It can now output at up to 4K resolution at 60Hz or in 1080p or 1440p resolutions at up to 120Hz. There's also HDR10 output, which would be more meaningful here, especially if you have an OLED television. The new dock also features active cooling, so it can keep the Switch 2 from throttling under load.

The Switch 2 features improved audio. The built-in speakers have been improved and there will also be 3D audio support when using the speakers or headphones in compatible games. Those using the dock will also get 5.1 PCM audio output to their TV or AV receiver.

Nintendo exclusive? Looks like Bloodborne 2

The Duskbloods (FromSoftware Exclusive) - Trailer | Nintendo Switch 2 Direct

Could only watch it now...was a bit underwhelming if I'm honest

Nintendo are getting cocky with their pricing. The South African market is tiny for them so they wouldn't give a crap about us, but they're pricing us to the point nobody can afford

I've got the money for it. As long as it's below R12 000 I'll consider it. Might also wait until games that interest me arrive

Feels like it’s going to bite them this generation by having everything paid and overpriced this gen.
Yeah. I can see 1st party games for R1999 to R2399... I dunno if they worked in tariffs or if it's just greed and gluttony, but they have positioned Switch 2 as an enthusiast console and not mass market. Nintendo fans have no "loyalty" (Wii to WiiU), and I can see Nintendo struggling (after a sell-out launch) in the future.

Nintendo's most dangerous enemy is Nintendo. This time there's no fallback/3rd pillar. Everything rides on this one platform.

It would have been great if the FPS and resolution upgrades for OG Switch were free and that Switch 2 demo too. That would have made the $450 more palatable.

They could also have made a one-tier NSO system: have available all retro console games for one price. This one-tier NSO also incl. the FPS + resolution upgrades for OG Switch games.

I cannot see long term success for this thing. They have abandoned the Blue Ocean. I hope I am proven wrong...

Edit:
Wonder when the ZA prices will be up, as other regions already have theirs.

Hardware wise it looks pretty good, will get one at some point but definitely not at launch.

I haven't watched the direct but looking at the announcements and nothing really stood out, not even the weird ass FromSoft game which...is another MP game from them in a such a short amount of time, what are they doing over there?

Hades 2 I'm excited for but again will come to other consoles once the Nintendo money hat is over. And those game prices..$90 for physical, taught times ahead.

Do I have $600? $600!

Trump Shocks With Massive New Tariffs That Could Make The Switch 2 Cost More Than $600

Fans faced a bit of sticker shock today when Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 would cost $450, especially with some new physical games set to cost as much as $90. But the price of upgrading to the Mario maker’s next console generation is set to get even worse after President Donald Trump announced a new wave of shockingly high tariffs that could push the price of a Switch 2 in the U.S. to over $600.
Make gaming great again!

Edit:
Maybe better to get a launch unit...? But then Trump may walkback the tariffs like before? If Trump-tariffs affect the Switch 2 (and other electronics), then US should be the only country affected (not gonna happen).
