Switch 2 thread

Rumours floating around via shipment info 'analysis'. From FamiBoards (which is down ATM)... ResetEra has also picked up on the rumour.

It begins...

This info looks pretty legit. Confirms the 12gb of ram, apparently ddr5x too which is sweet. 256gb storage is a nice extra. Seems like the rumor of magnetic joy cons is kinda confirmed too

I’m hearing that it’s quite a bit more powerful than the demo scenario put together in the DF video which doesn’t surprise me, I found it weird that they used a card with 4gb of video ram then when it wouldn’t even run some RTX scenarios due to memory issues they were just like welp /shrug. Just gotta wait and see but the details are coming out fast now

WTH!!! That's so unNintendo like. This thing seems to be packed with great tech (if all rumours are true). Combined with DLSS... nope, not gonna go down Speculation-with-loads-of-excitement avenue again.

Furokawa's concerns about (HD AAA) dev process has me worried too. myNintendoNews
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has explained to Japanese magazine Famitsu that video game development will become even longer, more complex, and more sophisticated in the future and that mergers and acquisitions could be one way to address this. Nintendo isn’t the only company to say that video game development is becoming longer, more costly, and more complex, with both Sony and Xbox echoing this statement in the past.
Nintendo did state (when and where I'm not sure) the delay for NSW 2 was due to software not being ready... I still think they should've limited the NSW2 to 1080p60 to address balooning dev costs and resource heavy and time consuming development cycles. A certain Trillion dolla company is closing studios left right and centre (not starting arguments and fan wars here - there's also 1000s of game devs that walked the plank right across the industry in this year alone) ...

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently too. I guess one positive thing working in their favor is that their hardware is still a generation behind the other consoles meaning that 1) dev tools are already mature and 2) ports from the last gen are going to be easy.

I think we’re going to see a ton of PS4/5 era games getting ported over to S2 because it’s a no brainer. I guess companies like From Software, Rockstar, Bungie, Activision, E.A. etc that hardly showed to to the S1 are gonna be lining up for this.

It seems like handheld will be a bit faster than PS4 with DLSS to boost it so 1080p 60 is reasonable. if you take that as a baseline think about how many AAA games could easily be ported over.

I wonder how much of this walking the plank right now is related to actual finances or is it not related to AI growth.

I mean all the AI cos going naa it wont replace people. If it comes to light at what rate its actually replacing people, they gonna toy toy like no one's business.

Yeah. Porting will hopefully keep the releases coming. And yeah, AI is gonna decimate even further and harder going forward. I thought AI was gonna be like a tool helping artists and devs, etc to get work done faster.

Tangent: I feel for XB owners at the moment. WTH are those guys on top doing? Phil and Sarah and Aaron , etc seem so hopelessly out of touch. Maybe Satya is cracking the whip, forcing them to thow studios under the bus after The $70B deal of the century...? And they even claim more closures are on the horizon...!
End Tangent.

Bumping this thread because there's a lot of rumors that we'll see something about Switch 2 this month.

I'm guessing in the last half of the month Nintendo will have a reveal or something. The first Switch just had a short ad but I'm expecting them to go into more detail about the performance and games. Preferably before Tokyo Games Show so that devs can get on board

Also read that BC has all but been confirmed by Natethehate. Hopefully (1st party) games come with free patches for smoother framerate and faster loading (doubt upscaling will be considered). I'm not paying for patches.

At this stage in the Switch lifecycle I don't think a pre-holiday announcement could be troublesome for sales.

Hoping for $399.99 (... ... LOL).

Much more blase for when the official announcement will be made/specs leaked/teardowns/etc. It happens when it happens. Have to admit a bit apprehensive about the success of the successor... I think it will follow the same trajectory of NES -> SNES as far as sales go (i.e downwards).

Hopefully the Switch 2 is a massive success and Nintendo stays Nintendoing (with all their crazy decisions and all). Not really liking the way Sony (*) and MS are doing things (company consolidations and PC-fying their software).

(*) Astrobot. Wow. First time since basically the PS2 that Sony software made me giddy with excitement.

Seems like it's possibly legit:

The only surprising part is the 2 USB-C ports, on top and bottom. Speculation that this is for some kind of dual screen experience with the TV. I guess the dock could have a cable out to the S2, and then you could use the full handheld as a controller with a screen. Maybe the screen could be used to display secondary HUD stuff and maps. Could be a return to dual screen gaming, seems promising to me. I would definitely use that.

I wondered for a while about the additional back button but now I guess it's probably to release the joy-cons. Looks like they'll be more secured with a magnetic attachment.

Also... if this is legit, expect Nintendo to drop the announcement very soon, like within a couple of days.

The faster processing power of the S2 will automatically smooth the framerates and improve resolution on a lot of games that use dynamic resolution for example. At the least it will result in perfectly smooth gameplay at the intended framerate, which will help to make games like Bayonetta 3 and Hyrule Warriors playable. There's already some demos of people overclocking their Switches to get BOTW running at 4k natively

Dunno what I expected... but those images look kinda boring. I did not expect it to be so samey to the OG. There's nothing that grabs you. Very unlike Nintendo. If true, I actually agree with this: no need to go totally bonkers and upset/confuse your loyal base.

Was hoping for more ergonomic JoyCons (if those pics are true).

The specs seem to confirm earlier leaked reports. Good. Good.

Announce the thing Nintendo, dammit!

$349.99 max. Go for the jugular of the competition.

Please no  I don’t see how that could be at all a good experience.

Considering I just had to spend R1500 on new Joycons because they were so badly made in the first place it would be great if they are forwards compatible with the next one.

Apparently they will be compatible but they can't dock so you'll need to charge them separately.

Warning: Patent infringment lawsuit incoming.

Lovely video. No waffling straight to the point. Seems to be Chinese?

Yoh that size. Seeing it next to the OLED makes the OLED look small. Funnily enough the SteamDeck (?) looks bigger in that video. Really not an issue as I mainly play docked.

The speculation of the [C] button for utilising the camera... Ehhhhh
