Another report that is using an 8-inch LCD, similar to the PlayStation Portal. I won’t be shocked if it’s the same panel. Sounds fine to me
 
OLED will be released later for the suckers that double-dip. Altho I have been weirdly ramping up portable playtime, LCD will be fine for me. I have only heard good things about the OLED screens. I just want affordable hardware.

Very exciting. Next week there should be a Direct but it's meant to be mostly a partner showcase, meaning that Nintendo basically have very little to show off for the Switch 1 remaining - so all the focus will be on their Switch 2 lineup. My guess is we'll see a preview trailer with the functionality showed off in full, some previewed games, and a launch window of late Summer.

I also guess we're going to be surprised by how powerful it is. I mean.. it's going to be able to handle ray tracing and probably easily outperform PS4 on a handheld, with a 1080p 8-inch LCD.

Doubt the LCD will be 1080p: battery life and all that. I'm going in with very low expectations. There's also rumours of no-Joycons. Bummer if true.

All will be revealed soom(ish). Still need to start with my Switch 2 Savings Fund. Hope it's under 10 000 pond.
 
Moore's Law Is Dead gives a really solid breakdown of the Switch 2 specs based on I guess having some contacts within Nvidia

At this rate by the time they actually reveal/release it the Switch 2 will be just as outdated as the OG Switch when it was released.

PS4 specs back in 2020 was "Wow!!"
PS4 specs in 2025/6 gonna be "Yawn"

From what he says it seems like it's closer to an XBOX Series S with better ray tracing, more memory, hardware optimized DLSS. I guess it's going to be quite impressive no matter if it's pushed back by another year. Only big downside for me is that they're mostly likely still going with the 8nm Samsung nodes, although it seems like he's mostly guessing on that based on cost and availability.

I am quite frustrated by them delaying it though. I'd have bought it day 1 even if the launch library was thin, if it just had decent back compat to make the current library of games perform a bit better.

Yea then he says it could be anywhere between 350-500. So really he doesn't know and 500 is the maximum range of what's possible. Most people guess around 400.

But comparing the price to a Series S is also misleading. It's a handheld machine. You have to set your expectations for that level. I think he's right that there's a lot more competition now than there was back in 2017 in the handheld space but also Switch 2 is going to be hitting a different market and honestly it'll be a quantum leap over Switch 1 anyway so most people aren't going to be obsessing over the performance.

It's the software. The software. The software. As long as that = "Wow!" who cares about specs? Not me, that's who! And Nintendo is making the competition irrelevant with their software. Nintendo was wise not to devalue their software with stuff like Gamepass and PS+. Their launch software is still basically fullprice.

Nintendo cheaping out on HW is the right move. Might not please all...

But the Switch 2 will be releasing in turbulent times. High interest rates, job bloodbaths everywhere. The macro-economic situation is pretty bad. Hopefully the worst will be over by then.

Buggerit! Video mentions some companies want to release "premium handhelds"... these guys never learn. Oh well...

Yea you're right about the market issue. Competition over specs is a total non-issue for Nintendo's market.

Even then I'm sure it's gonna be more powerful than people expect. For instance it can (supposedly) manage DLSS 3.5 AI ray reconstruction, and (apparently) it works well. PS5 and XBOX X's ray tracing is very weak, so I'm curious if the RTX on Switch 2 could be on par with those machines in some way.

I mean there's definitely a market for this. It's just a lot more niche than the Switch and already kind of crowded by the likes of Rog Ally, Lenovo Legion, OneXPlayer, MSI Claw, etc. A premium handheld from Nvidia would be quite exciting though. Imagine if it could have the power of an actual PS5 with DLSS etc. It's not out of the question.
 
Further updates from Moore's Law is Dead. Seems to think that one of the targets for Switch 2 performance was "decent image quality at 4k". So, 4k on docked mode - just powerful enough in 4k with DLSS performance mode 30fps. 3-4teraflops in docked, with DLSS and optimization and aggressively clocked down in undocked. The relevant portion is up to 20 minutes.

 
How reliable is this guy? Sounds a bit too sure of himself.

That 4K number looks very sus, and unlike Nintendo, but not impossible... All I want is 1080x60FPS with all the bells and whistles. I'm taking their adivice: I'm on a plane to Nvidia to ask the important questions.
