I have a lan connection in office but need to extend the wifi coming from the building
So I want to plug in a lan cable from wall into the device which has wifi thereby extending the wifi instead if using a wifi extender

What would I need a switch or router ?

Access point.

Slight hijack.
I need to connect some fans in my switch cabinet but I can't connect PC fans straight into the wall plug.
What can I use?

What type of fans are we talking about?
U can get psu for fans or get 220v server fans

Mikrotik hAP/AC/Lite,pick your budget

Pretty much any Wi-Fi router will do the job - they can all be configured as an access point.

Wireless range is rubbish on these
In comparison to what? Bunny ears? Shitposting for the sake of it?
Worked fine through a thick-ass slab in my old flat so do feel free to use a proper "range" example for a sub R400 device

I agree. Any entry-level totolink, tp-link, d-link, asus etc should be fine

1) Get any router with WiFi

2) Assign a static IP for it's LAN interface

3) Disable DHCP

4) Plug it into the existing network via LAN cable

???

5) Cheap makeshift AP that works as well as any off-the-shelf device

YMMV
