It was a gift. I'd still be using my XS, which is currently out on loan as a daily driver. It's been updated to iOS 17 which I think is good for a 5+ year old phone.
I don't know - I don't have a A series phone. Just the two S series and an old Huawei P10 that hasn't had an update since forever. The S9, also five years old, is ineligible for updates unfortunately.

So how does a gift make Samsung less affordable?

IPhone 11 was released at the same time. And wasn't as good? You still haven't told me what you're looking for in a phone other than more than 2 years use. If that's all you're worried about then there's nothing wrong with a Samsung that costs 1/2 the price of an iPhone... And would you look at that, we're back to my original post you felt the need to rebuff.
I only lost out one month when Discovery changed the banking goals. I'm on my second device now. Pity they stopped it. My watch was 100% funded, will get a new one December
Lol apart from the weaker processor that will force any regular user to really have to upgrade after two years. Crap efficiency that leads to a 5000 mAh battery that charges longer. No wireless charging. Camera that won’t be able to take night shots. Also for me no eSIM and I’ve moved on over to eSIM. One can go on and on.

He didn’t really put any effort in. You can have a widget to open the Settings app. To move the cursor you just press and hold the space bar. Change the notifications to Stack to get the date. The blue and green messages and confetti stuff is really a padentic thing to complain about. You can just ask Siri to set the alarm. You can probable delay sms sent with Shortcuts as well. The back button is on the top right mostly. I could go on and on.

Not for me. Wether I swype down or left to access Settings it's the same difference.
Not at all your thumb will already be in proximity of the spacebar. You'll have to lift your index finger up to change the curser.
Then just add a calendar widget to the lock screen. Many ways to skin a cat.
I don't like Whatsapp messages showing as green and gray. Can't turn it off.
Morning and evening is fine and you don't need a notification when you take the "clumsy" part out of the equation. Siri won't cock it up.

He missed a trick - my settings icon is on my homescreen so to get to it it's one swipe up from the bottom of any app and one click - same amount of clicks as android but opposite direction
I don't have to hold the spacebar down - I just touch where I want and the cursor jumps straight there - is this a change in the latest version of iOS since he tested? in any event, that gripe isn't relevant any longer
native delay sms / whatsapp / messages would be really cool -
this is something I really missed when I converted from Android many years ago - got used to not having it on ios so don't miss it anymore
