I see it mentioned quite often but I really don't get the battery thing on the watch. I charge my watch and my phone when I'm sleeping every night because when I'm sleeping, I don't need my watch and my phone.

Switching from Android to Apple - What made you switch?

I see it mentioned quite often but I really don't get the battery thing on the watch. I charge my watch and my phone when I'm sleeping every night because when I'm sleeping, I don't need my watch and my phone.
Before using the Apple Watch I used a Huawei GT2e,
Battery life was like 7 - 10 days,

Yep. But I'd imagine it is more annoying when you realise your 7-10 day watch battery is flat and you need to charge it, rather than just routinely charging every night beside your phone.

Lol, I really cannot commit to never going back to Android as my daily to be honest.
That Galaxy S21 Ultra has really got my eye. I still get this temptation to get a top end Android smartphone like the Note20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, ASUS ROG Phone 3, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+ or Xiaomi Mi11 and even that Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ tablet or a Foldable like Galaxy Z Fold 2, there is always something interesting about the top end stuff in Android, they are always pushing the boundaries in terms of hardware.
I wish there were more players in this besides iOS and Android though, I really wish WebOS had stayed around on smartphones and tablets, along with MeeGo and Windows 10 Mobile, I feel like Microsoft gave up just as they were getting somewhere.
Had WebOS stuck around I would probably be rocking a Palm Pre 2020 now lol

This thread has shown the good and bad about IPhones and combined with my "research" and closely listening to the top tech YouTubers and some experts on here I can't see myself switching to the"dark side".Android remains the best for me, too many reasons mention here.
Many phones are way too expensive but Apple takes it to another level. Not just the phone itself but accessories and repairs as well.
I would have looked at the IPhone 12, so it's the phone, the charger and to match what i currently have Airpods Pro + a case this adds up to ridiculous levels.
If pricing was similar to Android I would have been tempted to give iPhone a go.

That is all fine and well. If it doesn't fit with you then it doesn't.
Just a note on the repairs - it cost about the same as Android at Wefix. And there are cheaper accessories as well on takealot etc
The only real iPhone 12 equavalent phones we have available in SA generally cost more. You only need to buy a charger if you don't have any usb C charger. You don't need to use the Apple one. You also don't need to buy the Airpods Pro, you can use your Galaxy Buds etc just fine.

Regarding AirPods Pro, Case etc... You do realise that you don’t HAVE TO buy Apple right? The great thing is that pretty much everyone makes their headphones with iOS functions in mind, I don’t have AirPods I went and got Sennheiser over-ear cans and they work beautifully with all my Apple devices as Sennheiser made them with iPhone and iPad in mind.
Same thing with cases, you don’t have to buy an Apple case, there are hundreds of other case manufacturers that do Apple cases, some of them exclusively do Apple devices.
Really up to you how you go about it, when you buy an iPhone you don’t have to stick with Apple accessories, the world of iPhone accessories is huge for each model, the 11 Pro Max for example is going to be 2 years old this year and I am still finding new accessories for it, lol.
If software is what was bugging you then I would fully understand, but if it’s just accessories and repairs, this really is flexible, I just insure my devices, if it breaks or gets stolen then insurance will deal with it.

You shouldn’t buy an Apple case, but a Rhinoshield one instead.
Also another part of why Android would never work is the unity that would be broken between iOS and MacOS. This has gotten better over time with Android support in Windows 10 but it’s too little too late.
People like to forget this stuff when it comes to those firsts Apple apparently never does.

Part of the reason I would want an Apple watch would be for sleep tracking, its difficult to do that when the watch is on charge next to your bed.

The reasons I considered moving:
- support is good
- using the same flagship SoC for all their phones, so even the cheaper models have a good one, this noticeably has an impact on the camera
- in the midrange SE budget, they compete pretty well with price go features
Reasons I ended up not moving:
- accessories that were not really Apple compatible, e.g. Now Samsung watch 3, don't have an interest in paying the premium for all their devices
- certain open source apps I use don't exist on ios as they would not be able to pay for the app store license, I also occasionally make my own apps and don't want to pay for a dev license
- most of their phones are quite expensive and I just don't buy in that price range
- they don't make it easy to repair their devices, parts are difficult to source, and they don't have the best track record in terms of build quality, phones will drop and a glass back for example is not going to be great. It's actually what interests the most about the new S21 line
The rest are just general ios pro/con.
Dont like the lack of a notification drop down, forced grid, and I like android back from right because it's easy to reach on a larger phone. I understand ios not doing so since they designed that app flow is cards, while Android decided that any horizontal swipe means back, both are good options. The settings menu is still atrocious, they need to sort it out.
I do like the general uniformity, the dedicated loud/quiet slider, the attempt at being simple for most core apps, the design language is generally consistent and clean, etc.

You should try Samsung with the phone app on windows, most of that integration is on most other Android phones as well, they are prett much starting to become equal.
They still need to get swype cloud sync, that was promised years ago.
I guess I just don’t understand the concept. I don’t need a watch to tell me if I’ve had a craap sleep and I’m not sure how an app could improve it. Does it tell you it’s too hot you need to open a window or your pillow was at a bad angle?

The apple watch charges in about an hour and a half. After I wake up, I put my watch on charge. Go through my morning routine, then I am ready to go.

On the settings front, I needed to help some family members on cheaper android devices to do things and I couldn't easily get to the settings that I wanted. So I guess it is just what you are used to.
If you are interested in the S21 then you are buying in that price range as the cheapest S21 is more expensive than the cheapest iPhone 12 and the most expensive iPhone 12 is cheaper than the most expensive S21
And the apple watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch are all in the same ballpark as well.
In my opinion (as a previous Samsung Galaxy owner) Samsung is the most expensive. I also used to get the Samsung galaxy accesories, but I had to buy new ones whenever I upgraded (which was yearly). Apple's accesories normally worked over a few models (because the form factor doesn't change all that much)
I did break my glass back over this vacation and yes, it seems it is going to be very expensive to fix. I am just going to buy a cover - don't like to use covers though.

I really like the S21 Ultra, it fixes a lot of what was wrong with the S20 Ultra and Note20 Ultra, it’s to me the perfect Android smartphone, Samsung really knocked it out the park on the spec sheet, hopefully the final official reviews show that to, as there were just minor things it had to address from its predecessor. Really tempting device, the Android lover in me is trying to restrain himself, lol!

In regards to S21 price, it filters down to their other phones, so look at flagship to see trend for the rest of their devices.
I don't mind spending money on electronics, it's more it needs to bring me something. I chose the watch 3 over apple as I want more than one day of battery life, and I chose the watch 3 over the active 2 because I want the bezel/dial. If you just want a normal smart watch, go for the active 2 or the new tic watch, both should be cheaper options and are good, with more battery life than the Apple watch.
I'm just not going to spend that much on a phone that I'll replace in 2/3 years if most mid range meets my needs perfectly already.
For watches, it's pretty much you break it you buy a new one, too small for most economical repair, and for Apple Watch the lack of parts availability doesn't help.

Xiaomi is the perfect alternative between Samsung and Apple. To bad the higher end devices are not sold by MIA Africa.

Tbh, it is only if you can flash lineage OS onto it, don't like their OS flavor that much.
