Currently have a Afrihost account (512k uncapped). But now I'm being throttled badly, after downloading about 40gigs in 3 weeks.

A friend who has MWeb 4Mb uncapped, claims to have downloaded as much as 260gigs in a month (normally he manages 100-150gigs in a month) and never been throttled!

I use news servers (NZB-SA)...which I hear doesn't work well with MWeb.

I want 512k uncapped at roughly the same price I'm paying now (R297 pm)...which ISP do I switch to? Axxess, MWeb?

My concerns are being throttled...and being able to use NZB-SA...please help :)

i haven't used the mweb service in months. but i think using 100GB a month will not put you on the radar. even the issues i have with their ToC should still work out well for you.

I am on Mweb and I do constant 200-300gigs a month, I am streaming some NBA games as we type, no throttling, ever. Highly recommended.

Mweb is pretty good, I've done an average of 40gigs on a 384 line , no problems

agree

Afrihost is well sorted on their capped accounts, but their uncapped accounts lack.

I have a 4meg uncapped with Mweb and pushing it last month I did 400Gigs.

do most months in the 100+ and still doing fine.

just try and 'take a break' every so often so that you don't frequent hectic download totals.

this way there will be no need for suspicion.

I use filehosts mostly, but have sen a few people say they have no issues with news servers with Mweb.

other have chosen to go with Openweb, especially the GOLD package, and seem to be more than happy.

You got throttled for transferring 40GB? LOL what a ****ing fail.

Come over to MWEB for some actual uncapped. They don't have any such nonsense. (Although some people on the forum like to pretend they do)

eish, go go go to mweb,
i switched over to mweb instantly after afrihost throttled me at 17gb, and that was after the md told me i would be safe at doing 50gb a month +-

Seriously, how do you find 200+GB of stuff a month to download? and what do you even do with it?
I honestly cant find enough things that even remotely interest me to download and cover that in a month, let alone watch the movies/play the games etc. Or is it a case of "its the same cost regardless of use, lets smash it!!11!1one"

You're joking right? Steam games: about 10GB each, my last one was 15GB. 1 Season of Dexter in HD: about 30GB. Streaming video, another couple of GB. Data used updating Blu-ray players, smartphones, and PC software, several GB. It all adds up quickly.

There are bajillions of gigabytes worth of stuff out there. If you're not interested, fine, but other people are.

Go back to the part about when you can watch/play the stuff you downloaded. You mean to tell me that you can pull say 100GB of steam games, finish them in a month and then do it again the next month? HD epps are at most 1.5GB each, so are you then watching another 50 epps a month?
Streaming doesnt use that much even for hd stuff.
Are you single?

Ask VioAdmin, he's the only one who mentioned doing 200GB constantly. It's usually a peak once in a few months. But yes of course, 50 episodes a month is nothing, that's not even 2 a day... :wtf:

So you spend 2 hours a day watching epps then, and the games?
Im going back to the question about being single.

I follow 23 + Active series
I follow 'some' anime series.
If I do the math, thats quite a few GB's a month already :D
Anyway, OP - if you do decide to come to the family - welcome to MWEB - they rock :p
yes I am single - and I work 2 jobs - go to bed 2 am every day and wake up at 6 ;) - rinse and repeat

LOL Yes, I'm single, not that it's any of your beeswax, but if I had a gf to help me out around the house a bit I might have some more time again so fair enough, you have a point. :D

Does mweb shape windows updates? Signed up afrihost uncapped last month. Got full speed till 25 gigs than got heavily shaped. They are still shaping into the new month, a pain to load web pages and windows updates either don't download or the speed drops to 0 quickly after starting.

No, windows updates wouldn't be shaped. They come from local bandwidth in any case afaik.

Window updates come from local bandwidth? Weird, got telkom dobroadband 1 with 10gig local and it did not download windows updates. Last time I tried was last year sometime so it could have changed.
