I've been using Swype beta for a couple of years and have really got used to it, although I do find the predictive side a bit unpredictable at times.

I see it has now gone out of beta and is available on Google Play for R9.73 which is significantly cheaper than SwiftKey at R44.91

I'm considering purchasing one or the other, but am undecided (price is not the main factor)

have any of you guys used both and if so which is your preference and why?

SwiftKey is a lot better at word predictions and it has swipe technology to boot called SwiftKey Flow. You can also check on your usage stats to see efficient it's made you.

While quite gimmicky, the heat map is pretty cool.

I have used both.
I used the Swiftkey Trial, and when it expired I realised that I couldn't keep using my phone without it.
It really transformed my typing - before which I was really frustrated with a touch only phone (SGS2).
I really, really, recommend Swiftkey - if you aren't sure, use the trial for a month like I did

I love SwiftKey - I can really recommend it. Especially if you are, like me, Afrikaans. I enable both Afrikaans and English dictionaries simultaneously and I have no issues swiping in any language.

swiftkey is scary sometimes at the way it predicts what you going to say next.

But the interface is not really different from the standard keyboard on a tablet. Don't understand
And if the prediction is off it will be even more frustrating

I have used Swype, Google AOSP keyboard and Swiftkey and my conclusion is Swiftkey is far superior at flow character recognition and word prediction. It also "learns" well.

The only gripe to Swiftkey is the number pad, which is not the most intuitive, but that's a small annoyance.

I tried both and I use neither. I settled on Kii Keyboard. It's simple and does the job. Free as well.

I have only used Swiftkey, but I can’t see myself trying something else. Works to good:)

^ And what Die_Miek said, I like the afrikaans option.

Any know of a decent Alpha numeric keypad I can use?

Have tried Swiftkey, it's amazing but only has a QWERTY option.

Used both. Found Swiftkey's layout to be rather busy but a good keyboard. I'm currently using swype just so I can get my monies worth because I bought it. I'm happy using it and it predicts words really well but the only problem is that sometimes it hangs when being called up on screen and that can get rather annoying but I don't text much so I rarely use my keyboard.

I'm a Swype fan myself. Love the way it learns your words and then auto backs up your dictionary in a cloud - makes it really easy to transfer to a new device. Also, I've built up a great Afrikaans dictionary over time by adding words to the Netherlands language pack.

Swiftkey is the best

If you worried about the price just wait a while if you can as it goes on sale quite often

They also working on a cloud back up system for the future update..

Swype is my default go-to 'board but, as I've bought it (too) and saw this thread, thought I'd give SwiftKey a(nother) try. And I regret that I can't go on a thundering rampage to bludgeon some SENSE into those people! The stupid, verkakte app *insists* on putting a space after every.damn.word (<- just try typing that) so, like right here, if commas are called for, you are basically screwed (see how much fun that is too). But I'll go and trawl through their support section to see if anything can be done about this, as I really want to like this app. But not with the shit it's pulling now ..and it seems I'm not alone in this. And this is before the REALLY convenient, and frankly elegant, way Swype handles alt characters: a shorter long-press gets you to the visible alt-key, while a longer one gets you to the entire RANGE of characters available on any one key. [-]Swift[/-]SlowKey comes nowhere close to this capability. Actually, fcckit, I'm going back to Swype; this craptastic behaviour isn't worth it.

I've got both (and SlideIT). I actually got all of them on specials at the time :D. Still prefer Swiftkey, because you can enable both English and Afrikaans. SlideIT can also do both languages, but Swiftkey's predication (Afrikaans and English) is just scary good.

If you select a comma or full stop, it appends it at the end of the previous word
