Sybaritic & TechStop

Sybaritc would not honour the 5yr warranty on my Seasonic power supply. Started having issues with it after 7 months and told me that they do not deal with Seasonic suppliers any longer and will only give a 6 month warranty on the unit. This was never said when I purchased the unit.

Spammed me as well and the site looks hideous. Luckily Gmail is fcking fast in picking up it's spam.

That might be because lots of us have marked his mail as spam...

Quickest way to sink a new business these days is to send unsolicited email.

My little chat with Graeme :

16:09:26 Guest: is it a newly registered partnership or an existing partnership?
16:09:51 TechStop: We are a new venture.

Seems the owner is not totally the owner since its a partnership.

Whaa! IIRC, according to law (since somewhere in 2011) we have the right to know the partners, except the anonymous (sleeping) partners, but they are liable. Also as per the law, they need to trade as Graeme Simms and co. t/a TechStop, the trading name must be registered. I don't the process how sole proprietors and partnerships register trading names.

The above also needs to be clearly indicated on the Techstop.co.za website as per the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.

Anyway:

Enterprise Portal

Enterprise name: SYBARITIC TRADING
Enterprise number: 2002/103555/23
Enterprise Type: CLOSE CORPORATION
Enterprise Status: VOLUNTARY LIQUIDATION

@Graeme Simms, here is some advice: http://www.cipc.co.za/index.php/man...-company/liquidating-or-winding-your-company/

So who are we left with thats decent, Wootware, Raru.. ?

Thanks for the head's up on this. I also used to deal with Sybaritic and received the email today as well. Used to think they were good but after reading about your experience I am very sceptical about doing business with this new Techstop company.

So who are we left with thats decent, Wootware, Raru.. ?

As everyone else has said Sybaritic's after sales service was a complete joke (somewhat like the owner).
RebelTech IMO are the best online PC shop right now. I have never had a minutes trouble from them and their prices are great.

Not dealt with Rebel Tech so can't speak to their service....Wootware I've dealt with alot and found them very customer-oriented. You generally only know how good a company's service is when stuff goes wrong...I got a faulty Nexus 7 2013 (screen dimming was working overtime to the point I couldn't even set it up) and Chris from Wootware did everything you'd expect from a customer service point of view.

and I'm now feeling a bit jittery - what if one of them one day decides to go awol on me after a serious order - like a new high end graphics card, or an Alienware laptop?

Reading this whole thing about Sybaritic left me in a a bit of a worry. Your comment mradovan is exactly why! I don't blame the consumer if all they see are stores closing down (Sybaritic being the latest). If I was a end-user consumer, I would also be very nervous to hand my money over before seeing the goods. This is an issue I am currently reviewing and will hopefully have something soon!

Rebel Tech seems to be in a tight spot these days, but they will pull through eventually.

CataclysmZA, can you elaborate on this? Rebel Tech has grown at a nice manageable rate over the past few years - we have been able to import new brands into the South African market (i.e. Mushkin, GALAX and G.Skill). The main issue I am currently having is these "fly-by-night" businesses (not places like Sybaritic since they have been around for years) that take money and then close down which leaves the consumer with a distrust towards online stores.

Sybaritc would not honour the 5yr warranty on my Seasonic power supply. Started having issues with it after 7 months and told me that they do not deal with Seasonic suppliers any longer and will only give a 6 month warranty on the unit. This was never said when I purchased the unit.

Kyton, please drop me a mail with the units serial number, I will see if I can assist ([email protected]).

You left out me, Rebel Tech. I am a sad panda right now. (www.rebeltech.co.za)

Thanks, ThatGuy_ZA. I am hoping that 2015 is the year Rebel Tech becomes the first stop for customers looks to purchase PC/I.T components. Rebel Tech is going to be focusing heavily on Customer Service!

Got the spam as well. Was sent to our company info@ address. We've never done business with them. So where did he get the mailing list?

I can personally vouch for Rune- Rebel Tech. They are not in a tight spot.

I purchased a USB3.0 Corsair Mini 64GB flash from them. Had a problem, read in USB 3.0 ports but not USB 2.0.

They picked up, tested and returned to me. No fault found. Didn't charge me for the courier back to Durban.

Oh, btw - I found out the cause. The flash drive is a little too long on the edge. So it doesn't make proper contact with USB 2.0 ports. If you really push it in, it will function. Sometimes.

Not surprised by this.

Buying was ok.. they did the bare minimum.

Problem was if something went wrong they weren't the most helpful, almost as if they were doing me a favour.

Next time I purchase PC components it will be Wootware or Landmark.

Looks like Graeme couldn't even be bothered to get another P.O. Box, the postal address is the same as Sybaritic's.

I had an item I returned a long time ago for about R300 credited and I never bought from them since. Anyone know how I can find out who the liquidators are so that I can try to recover some? Just for fun, I've written off the money a while ago but I reckon that if I can help drag out the process that'll annoy the crap out of him.

Had a problem with a Gigabyte graphics card once and didn't even bother with taking it back to them, just took it back to Rectron and they swapped it out immediately. Made me so glad to have bought something that I know they sourced from a wholesaler who would help me out.

The spam I received:
Dear efitol,

Firstly I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for your previous support at Sybaritic over the past years. I have moved over to a new company named TechStop and would like to continue providing you with the experience of great products and service that you have become accustomed to.

Please visit our new site at http://www.techstop.co.za/ for a listing of products. Should you not be able to find the product you are looking for, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to assist.

Kind regards,
Graeme.
Didn't even know Sybaritic was liquidated or closed down since I saw the site was still up. Might have made a costly mistake soon.

My faith in online shops is now at an all-time low. I never had issues with Sybaritic but it turns out they stole people's monies.

Wootware was also fine until they gave me a faulty mobo. Sent it back to them and they gave it back still faulty but they insisted it was tested. Bleugh.

Yeh...they really are scum when it comes to after-sales. I had it in writing where he lied to me. He was actually stupid enough to forward the mail from the supplier where they said something completely different to his response in the forwarded email.

Needless to say, the replacement item also didn't work - but I didn't bother with returning it again. It looks like all the bad after-sales support has caught up with them, now they're trying to rebrand and screw new customers.
