I can't really see the point in Fanboys, whether they like Android or Nokia. Personally I prefer Symbian, simply because it does what I want it to better than Android. I use my phone primarily for phoning, mail for Exchange, IMAP mail, video watching, music listening and as a GPS.
All the above was supplied and is maintained by the manufacturer. I haven't had any issues ever with any of the functions listed above. OVI maps is primarily offline, with minimal data use for A-GPS and traffic updates. The traffic updates are great, especially if you've missed the last traffic report on radio. Mail for Exchange is fully integrated from the beginning - if I create an appointment on my phone it saves it to Mail for Exchange by default.
On Android, I had to download a separate app to access the corporate directory on mail for exchange, I had to download a widget to switch the 3G off (Skype and Kindle app updates chow bandwitdth!), and I can't seem to define separate bandwidth destinations with corresponding access points. Maybe there's an app for that - I couldn't find one.
So for me, Symbian is just so much easier and better integrated.
That said, I understand why so many people like Android. Development is more open and applicable to a wider range of handsets. There are many more apps than on Symbian, even without rooting your phone (which I did, in any case). For example - I'm looking for an app that allows me to play my music by folder. Every artist has a "Greatest Hits" cd, and arranging by artist or by album messes up my playlist. On Android I had enough choices to find something that works, on Symbian I can't find anything, unless I'm willing to crack my phone, which is more involved than rooting an Android phone.
So yeah, each of the two has advantages and disadvantages. And as for the users: each to his own. I prefer Symbian. You prefer Android. That does not make me a better person than you, or more clever, or more tech savvy. Bashing Symbian will not make me like Android more or Symbian less. It might convince me that the basher is incapable of objectively talking about the subject, though.
