System build noob hits snafu

Ok, MOBO is on. RAM is in (had to push down so freaking hard though. really frightening). CPU is in. Heatsink is...half in.

The push pins were really tricky and I found myself with two in and two not in. And of course the two not in weren't diagonal to each other.

So what do I do now? Rotate one of the in pins so that it pops out and then try push it and the diagonal partner down at the same time again?

Are there any tips?

Do the diagonal pins need to essentially clip in at the exact same moment? (Cos trying now with just one loose one isn't doing squat)

This system seems like it was made for idiots like me. But alas. What's wrong with just screwing sh*t down?

The Intel based coolers are a biatch to install imho. I found it much easier to do it with the board out of the case. They really should revisit the design as it also makes the MB bow. Prefer the AMD designs.
 
Yeah, was really annoyed that the manual strictly instructed me to install the mobo first and then the cpu+sink, because I was thinking that surely it'd be easier to do so out of the case.

Will give it another go later on today and if its still not happening then I guess I'll just have to remove the board. What do you place underneath it so that the board doesn't get damaged and there is space for the pins to go through the bottom?

A flat wood board with big holes where the pins go would be fine.
I did mine on my lap but be carefull if you do this.
 
Gonna have to try that. This system is absolutely obscene. I've tried to unlock all 4 again and start from scratch in an attempt to get two diagonals to go in at the same time, which seems to be the key. But it just won't ****ing happen. Always only one goes in, and then I get the impression that that throws the whole pressure off, making it harder to get the others in.

Does anyone see a good, easy to install and cheap option there? Cos I do have a R100 voucher with them.
 
My dad says he's got some thick plastic that I can use to put the board on. So I'll give that a try, but if that doesn't work then hopefully there's a fairly cheap option available.

They all work on the same principle so it does not get any easier.
The cooler master hyper tx2 is a nice cooler though.
 
Cooler master uses a backing plate that you screw the HSF down into so you will need access to the back of your board throug the chassis kick plate with the motherboard securly fixed on the standoffs.


Your issue with stock fan make sure all of those pins are aligned and turned in the same direction, press down evenly on all four at the same time and take note which ones don't take and apply slightly more pressure there, get this right the first time and you'll have no hassles. Should feel almost the same amount of force you applied to the RAM module.
 
I had to apply a TON of pressure to get the RAM in.

Will see how it goes tonight, when I get that slab of plastic.
 
Okay, I took out the mobo and placed it on some packing foam. I got my dad to help and we've managed to get it so that two of the black pins FROM ONE SIDE are perfectly through. On the other side though, one is like half through and the other is just peaking its head through.

The structure itself feels totally solid but I'm worried that the one side not being totally in will result in temp probs or, even worse, once the fan spins the one side will come off and possibly damage another component.

I've spent about 3 hours on this son of a bitch now and I just don't see how I can get it any better. I've pushed with all gods fury on that one peaking its head out and it just won't move. And unloocking it and pulling it up to try again, never works either.

This is the most soul crushing device ever made by man.

I'm out of ideas.

I heard something about being able to bolt it down instead. Do you know anything about that?
 
So I eventually took it down to Incredible Connection and a nice guy with ONE ARM did it in under one minute. The key? Use a screwdriver to apply the downward pressure. The guy took pity on me and didn't even ask for any payment. Haha.
 
LOL ouch. I just installed a 478 cpu yesterday - it was so frickin easy. Why they felt it necessary to make the lga775 such a complicated setup is beyond me.
