Sorry for the long message.

I got a call from a company called T-Connect who introduce themselves as Telkom. They offered me an uncapped, unshaped 20Mb line for R799 p.m. Includes free router and extender + no analogue line rental & free Telkom to Telkom calls. Since I cannot get fiber in my area I was very interested. Then they asked for my Banking detail over the phone. At that stage I reversed out and told them to call back the next day. I research the Telkom offer and it sounded legit except the website only offered 10Mb for R799.
They called back and this time the price had risen to R816p.m. I inquired why and was told this was the because they had upped the speed to 20Mb. I accepted the offer subject to seeing all the T&C in writing and signing a contract.
Next day I got an offer form. On scanning it the price was R816 so that was correct but instead of uncapped/unshaped it was a 50GB cap. No e-mail address on the mail - just a call center. I immediately called them and they re-iterated that my deal is a 50GB cap.
I immediately told them to cancel the order and have subsequently received a cancellation note.

Is this a scam? Anyone else been called?

Got a call yesterday from number ending *******0013 saying his name is Kevin Titus from Telkom offering 10gig lte plus b315 for R199. He was using a 8year old database and had incorrect address. When asking which branch he's at phone got slammed down by the scumbag.

Not necessarily a scam but all the third parties calling on behalf of someone should be treated with suspicion as they are not too big on ethics, rather do your business with the main man.

Since you've given them your banking details check your bank statements very carefully because I suspect it's not the last time you hear from them although you cancelled your contract.

So I went to my local Telkom office in Fourways. They offer 10Mb "uncapped" for R799. On querying it it turns out that uncapped is 120 Gb data thereafter they throttle you right down so that you can still send & receive mails.

To me that is dishonest. If I had not asked the right questions I would have signed a 24 month contract and been desperately unhappy after the first month.

I am a newby. Is this normal practice?

yip. You still have unlimited data quantity, you will just get it at 256K/bps......

There are packages that do offer completely uncapped and unshaped data, you just have to look for them.
And always read or ask for the Fair Usage Policy.

thats not the cap on the ADSL deal, it does have a fair usage policy of iirc 800gb

Tconnect is a scam! They promise internet connection so good you can't refuse. Once they have your account number over the phone you will receive Online Order Confirmation for 24 month contract at much lower speed. More importantly they will load your debit order contract with "value add" services you didn't even immagine. In my case these were:Pro Bundle SafetyBox RescueBox HotSpotter at extra R139p/m. Each of the names above represents a different online website with a contact number. Realising the scam I contacted Tconnect immediately to cancel the contract which they did. To cancel the "value add" services though was not possible. So I don't have internet connection but I pay the debit orders bundled with it! When I contacted my bank the consultant told me that it is a scam which the bank can't do anything about it - the bank have to pay the debit order and then reverse it on my request. The consultant also pointed out that the debit order changes name every month so the bank can't put permanent stop order, I have to check my statement every time and report the fraudulent debit order.

Hallo everybody. New on this forum.

OK, they got me. I received the modem etc. the end of last month and everything was OK until this morning (20 days) and then dead.

Can I still cancel the contract?

Sad to see that these type of scams are occurring more and more…. And more often than you would like.
These people are professionals with their homework being done to such a point that you don’t realise you’ve been had till its too late.
Imagine they do this with 100 people every month at R800 per person. That’s a very nice salary they are generating.
Would love to know what group of thugs are responsible?

Biggest question is, how do you even protect yourself?? After completing all forms they have all your detail.
THAT is the most terrifying thought of all.

Hi Antiban. Sorry, but you were given incorrect information. The Telkom 10Mbps uncapped for R799 is not capped at 120 GB. It is truly uncapped, unshaped and not throttled. There is a FUP (fair use policy) that only starts kicking in at 450GB, then your line speed is reduced to 5Mbps for 2 hours a day. Here is the full detail …

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/broa...now-about-telkoms-homeunlimited-packages.html

Most probably you won’t even reach 450GB a month, very few people do. As far as I know, only online gamers get to 500GB a month.

Note that data used from midnight to 7 AM does not count toward the FUP. With NightOwl, these packages are in fact the only true uncapped packages available. Telkom beats any other ISP hands down. By miles. Telkom gives you everything for free, free installation (R792) free router (R499 to R1899) free 2GB mobile data (Vodacom R109 p.m.) You even get a TV Media box free (R1099).

Data R175, ADSL line rental R425, landline rental R199. Total R799 per month VAT included.

Antiban … take the Telkom Unlimited home 10Mbps deal for R799. You won’t be sorry, it is the best thing since sliced bread.

T Connect Update. They seem to be handling transfer from regular ADSL to Fiber for Telkom. After receiving a call from a rather pushy operator who kept talking after I told her that this was a really bad time, and in which I had to verify banking details, I became concerend, and called Telkom. They confirmed that T Connect is contracted to handle the transfer. I checked whether Telkom remains my service provider, and they confirmed that this is indeed the case. Sooooo.... I'll wait and see. Will update it if it all goes pear-shaped.

T Connect Update 2. So today, I get a call from someone offering me "value add services" I tell her I don't want any, but she keeps going. No, it's not an addition to my contract - it's a "thanks" for becoming a verified customer. I ask her if it's free, and I get another terminological run around that's purpose-designed to make me think it IS free without ever saying so. I get to a point where I tell her that this is a simple yes/no question. Is this free stuff? Another carefully scripted response... Finally, she gets to the point where she's gabbling off what I'm going to get, and suddenly everything is R35 per month - I forget how many things there were, but it was a whole bunch. I ask her, if this stuff is free, why are giving me a price? Does it come off my bank account at the end of the month or not? Finally, I get to the bottom of it. It's a new subscription. SNEAKY!!!!!!! LET THE BUYER BEWARE!!!

They called me today, identified themselves as Telkom Connect, and knew enough about me that I stayed on the call to hear what they had to say. Said that Telkom had upgraded the fibre in my area and wanted to know if I was experiencing any problems. I said yes, and they responded that I needed a new router. They could provide me one at no extra cost, and would upgrade my line speed at the same time at a reduced premium. This sounded good, but they were offering me a 10Mbps uncapped. Somehow they didn't know that was actually a downgrade since I currently have 20Mbps with Telkom - who they claimed to be.

The lady also didn't know my current telephone number or banking details which I found odd - if they were indeed from Telkom they would know this already.

Someone needs to stop these people, I'm pretty sure Telkom didn't sign them up for this purpose.

Experienced the exact situation. I applied 3 months ago for adsl from telkom. Was somehow relieved when Shaazia eventually phoned to talk about the installation date and procedure. They had all my details and everything was spot on. They offered the same deal as explained by other telkom clients. After spending close to an hour going through the contract I was promised that not a cent will be deducted from my account. Around 8 hours later, R188 was deducted from my account from telkom. Telkom did not have my banking details so it was obvious that tconnect had something to do with it. After loosing my cool after a follow up call to finalize my contract, Shaazia denied tconnect had anything to with the missing money. I was promised a copy of the contract as agreed by me and sales person. I received the contract with nothing that I agreed upon. These r crooks/scamsters with no etiquette. It's about selling and conning people. Stay away. Even telkom agents in shopping mall's warn about these third party scamsters. Telkom seems to be complete oblivious to these scamsters and U WILL HAVE A HELL OF A TIME GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK OR CANCELING THIS CONTRACT

T-Connect is at it again. Received a call where they offered me the exact same package as Telkom 4mbps Smart Uncapped but with a fibre router that's "faster" than the one I'm using though the line they are offering is exactly 4mbps :D
