Takealot versus Makro — online tech pricing showdown

Massmart-owned Makro is focusing on ecommerce to compete with South African online retail giant Takealot. With better pricing on several tech products, it could be well on its way to doing so.

A MyBroadband pricing comparison revealed that while Takealot was cheaper for four of the ten items, Makro's deals on certain items can save South African residents a significant amount of money.

I’m not sure how it is now but after Walmart took over Massmart Game and Makro got pretty expensive.

Very impressed by Game this week.

First time with a courier that actually lets you know you are next in line soon. Live tracking and all:cool:

The image Makro has used for the Seagate 2 TB One Touch Portable is actually an image for the Seagate Backup Plus Slim. The model no Makro has listed (STKB2000400) does not exactly match the one myBB is referencing for R2,434 on Takealot (STKB2000401). The actual STKB2000400 can be had for R1,872 on Takealot, you chose the more expensive one.

Don't get me wrong, the Makro listing is still a good deal, but I like to do my due diligence.

Its one thing to be cheaper, another altogether to have a proper ecomm offerring .. Makro are crap at delivery turnaround and returns policy ... Takealot for all their faults, have a very solid "if you arent happy send it back" policy, which works very well.

Maybe this article should have a follow up on support / delivery / returns for a real comparison

Takealot is easy, convenient, reliable and often cheapest and the first place I look, HOWEVER; do price comparisons first!!!
Presently shopping for a generator; my chosen generator is on Takealot for R14 929 plus R200 delivery surcharge. The same generator is cheaper EVERYWHERE else. Ordered from Macro for R12k, free delivery.
