Just received an email that Takealot is closing down their pickup point here in Faerie Glen. I know the building that hosts this pickup point is being renovated. However, it seems that there are NO other pickup points in Pretoria East any longer.

When selecting Centurion Mall pickup point on their web site, it does not allow to go further in the checkout process.

Are they rethinking the pickup point delivery model ?

Perhaps there was no need in your area? I've not received an email indicating they are closing down any in my area, perhaps with COVID they were not utilized? So staffing them wasn't viable?

Ordered yesterday and used a Joburg pick-up point without issue.

Did they still a charge delivery fee if you chose to pick up?

This pickup point was VERY busy - and with no other pickup points in Pretoria East, it does not make sense that there was no need. I used it many times and it was always busy.

Probably scaling down on points with fewer users or packages. Will likely combine them with bigger, more busy points. Makes business sense these days to save costs where possible. Doesn't mean these points are not busy, but it would make more sense to combine points. Have fewer expenses and likely get rid of some bloated staff members.

The one close to me is also gone, not like it was not used nor haven't had employees. Union motivated? Money saving motivated? Dumbass **** decided to just close it cuase he/she is being smart? Who knows but now I have to deal with the actual delivery team again. Oh god...

I got an email to say the Menlyn pick up point is also closing as well.
The next one to service Pretoria is Centurion or Pretoria West according to the email.
Quite disappointing if it's true the Faerie Glen one is closing as well, I haven't seen any notification about that though.

Faerie Glen is not on the list any longer when you order.

defeats the purpose of having a pickup point if they are still charging a delivery fee
For me it is convenience as I dont always want stuff delivered at work.
Now I have to strap it to my bike and ride 50km home

Have you ever bought a 2TB harddrive from Takealot?
It comes in a box the size of a bar fridge

alberton had monstrous queues over Christmas, out the door and around the block.

and in a very dodgy area,

what I cant understand is why not, set up lockers at Engen ect..
would be a lot easier than delivery to a pickup point that is often just one dude on his own.

May as well close down the Tygervalley one as well since it is impossible to find.
They only way that I knew that I was close by is from all the irritated / confused people walking in the road trying to find it as well.
Unless they have sorted that disaster out since.

Have you seen the size of the lockers compared to the size of the Takealot boxes?
