Takealot disaster

May save some money if they don't package each thing into its own brown box or use excessively large boxes for packaging.
My girlfriend ordered some stuff the other day a whole load

Then in the one box just smaller than a shoe box was one pen

Yet the other big box had ample space

I ordered a kettle from Takealot. Picked one with good reviews that was in stock so that I can get it quickly.

Kettle gets delivered and it's a completely different kettle to what I ordered. Different make, different size, just the same colour.

Return it and ask that they send me a new one. So they send a wrong kettle again. Had to ask for a refund.

I just went to Checkers and bought a new kettle. Much easier. Much less hassle.

This has been going on for a while. I used to always get Takealot orders that looked like they were packed in one go, i.e. sensibly. But for many months already my orders have since been packed strangely, a bit like Amazon does. I assume Takealot is boxing items as soon as they're available now, with little to no concern as to how many items are in the entire order.

Takealot seems to have forgotten to maintain a value proposition.
  • Prices are seldom any good. I can buy cheaper locally or from other online stores.
  • I might be imagining it, but I could swear that the product selection has decreased.
  • Given their unrelenting insistence to show deceitful discounts across a huge portion of their catalogue, they aren't fostering a sense of trust very well.
  • Delivery times used to be incredible but have become mediocre.
  • Mr D drivers are a tragic, underpaid lot. It's not fun receiving deliveries.
I used to order a fair bit from Takealot but haven't for a little while. I might be done with them. What's the point anymore.

I find I prefer to go to a niche store that specializes in the products I want. Want tools? Go to to a tool shop/estore. Want supplements? Go to a supplement shop/estore. Almost always cheaper with better service.

Takealot has kinda become like a china mall now.

Back in the day everything sold was under one roof and the human pickers could just put item on conveyor to packaging.
You could actually rock up at the Milnerton warehouse and order from their tablets in the foyer, pay and wait for the item to be picked.

Now TA have multiple stores spanning thousands of m2 and I would guess heavily automated by now
Just easier to send off even if it means multiple packages for one order.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's been severely disappointed in Takealot's delivery performance. I used to always be able to get next-day delivery and even same day delivery on items in stock in Cape Town, but now it seems every time I try to order stuff that's in stock I get delivery times for days in the future. It seems like Takealot has completely given up on next-day delivery, it doesn't even come up as option on any orders. I don't think they realise or care how much business they're losing because of their delivery issues.

This is just crazy
Looking at my history tab now I see each year is 5 pages long
Theres 10 orders per page
So I am averaging 50 orders a year
Since they started

Not once (touch wood) have I ever had a bad delivery, not once
How can you not know that you order from Takealot every week on average? If this is news to you, might want to check those delivery addresses bud.

Sometimes I go 2 or 3 weeks without ordering
Then sometimes I will order twice or 3 times in a week
Thats why i had to go to my history now to go check
5 pages long per year

I wish I could say the same. Every order that I've placed with Takealot that happens to be scheduled for a Friday delivery has ended up only being delivered on the Monday. Their drivers lie and say that they attempted delivery and no one was at home to take delivery, meanwhile I sit at home like an idiot waiting the whole Friday and nobody comes and you get that dreaded SMS at 2:30pm "Hi XXXX, we tried to deliver your Takealot order #xxx, but couldn't."

Oh Ive had a few those
I didnt mean my orders were always spot on correct to the day
What I meant to say is I have never ever received a wrong item
Nor had any trouble returning an item
The service has been 100% acceptable
Only gripe is 3rd party sellers that take their time to deliver
That is annoying

Oh also
I never have items delivered anymore
I always choose the Pick Up points
Once an item has arrived you have 7 days to collect
If you dont collect they return it
You get a full refund
Ive done this a few times with my drunken purchases
