Do your homework before buying. During checkout select cash deposit. Noticed the same deals are available at stores.. its a promotion they running.
Not my issue but ok...

Takealot's pricing has become dodgy and inflated.

I seem to be comparing prices between takealot, raru, loot, incredible connection and makro before making a purchase these days.

Check their Bidorbuy. Doesn't update as often and sometimes still has old specials.

This is true, noticed quite a few things where takealot's markup is about R1000 to R1500 on a 3k item.

It's typical game theory, they've acquired their main competitor reducing the need to compete. This was to be expected.

Just the other day they had 3 notebooks available and now they have 19 notebooks available in stock, which they probably purchased from the supplier at a very discounted rate. http://takealot.com/og/v1/PLID32846095 haven't passed this saving on to the consumer.

I have become very wary of them with their daily deals. The same deals can be found at Makro. If they offer vouchers different story. Clever marketing strategy from Takelot to merge and start charging high prices..

Dog food still works out cheaper to buy from them with delivery..

Noticed they now offering 3 % back in ebucks this wasn't the case before.

I don't really care what they charge as long as they're consistent about it. I usually shop around and will pick the best deal. Mostly that's been from Loot.

I wonder if that 3% is for everyone or only certain FNB customers. If it's for everyone it might finally be a reason together with Dischem's 1% to get a card.

Looks like they installed Wantitall's pricing system.

Saw this today...

Save R200! looks like a bargain.
Then I made a comparison...

Average price is around R200 anyway, so they're obviously pulling my leg with these "daily deals"

I don't believe daily deals any more. Once bitten twice as shy clicking the but button. It's a saving of R30 also add the free delivery R35. You save R65. I ways do a comparison check. I think they adding markup to everything due to ebucks benefit. They have to pay something to ebuck it's not for free.

I always do compare, but so far nothing I've wanted to buy was cheaper anywhere else. Obviously their claimed original price is in many cases inflated, but if I'm still saving something the deal may be worth it, and there are many cases where their alleged promotional price is exactly the same as what numerous places are charging which, for me, makes them look bad.

I think the point is that they inflate prices to show a higher discount rate. Many retailers do it but it doesn't make it ethical.
I think a lot of shops do this. You have to know the typical price to know how much you're really saving.

Except its divided by 10!!
I don't know how those guys even get customers. It's common to see them charging several hundred Rand for a $15 item.

I have learned to always compare prices with the daily deals. I have gotten some really good deals, but you are right, mostly the prices are inflated.
