Takealot

Cause credit is bad, I want to use my cash I have in my card or then it leads to card cloning and abuse with the credit card online (they dont even need pin and some card machines also)

Actually being not able to use my debit card online is actually a good thing I would rather stick to bank transfers :D

Time to change banks. Standard Banks Autopay option that they have is very awesome. No credit card necessary and clears immediately.

The only good thing to come out of Standard Bank.

However, there are two flaws:
1. Online shopping has no borders. Std Bank Auto pay is only available for national purchases.
2. It's not a widely acceptance form of payment in S.A. Sites such as WantItAll don't accept autopay

For all those other times I have my credit card and can do EFTs if need be.

How much does Standard bank charge to use terminals in shops to purchase with debit card. Absa charges R2.65

If you're worried about bank charges and don't need a credit card then you need capitec. They charge R1. And only R7 to draw cash from other banks ATMs.

Was thinking about using them but the location in town is quite bad, its in Pietermaritzburg Edenvale Mall in taxi rank area :D

May have to go to pavillion to check it out

I never draw cash at all so availability of atm's doesnt worry me

You could get a cheque card. That works just like your debit card except that it can be used for Internet payments as they are usually visa or MasterCard

Then don't shop on the Internet?

+1 or at least don't complain when you're cash deposit isn't instant. Credit card is exactly the same as a debit card you just have to have discipline. If you set your account to be debited in full you don't pay any interest.

Starting to change my mind about shopping online, since it said I would get them this week when I purchased the item and now suddenly it says they out of stock and chance of getting them now is low.

So how do I get my money back, since takealot hasnt been replying to my emails

Generally it can take up to 2 business days for a reply. They have a lot of mail from my experience.
Rather phone them.

There are 3 types of cards you could be issued from a bank:
1) debit card - usually branded a maestro card.
Requires a swipe of the magtape and a pin code for purchases.
Is not embossed.
Does not have a name on the front.
Does not expire.
Does not have a CVV number.
Can be reissued immediately at a branch.
Can access the funds in your account it is linked to.
Transactions reflect immediately.

2) credit card - most commonly accepted are Mastercard and Visa.
Requires either pin code when the chip is used, or a signature when the magtape is used.
Is embossed.
Has a name on the front.
Has an expiry date.
Has a CVV number.
Replacements usually have 2week lead time?
Can access funds upto the credit limit set.
Transactions must clear before they reflect, can take upto 7days.

3) cheque card - most commonly accepted are Mastercard or Visa.
Requires either pin code when the chip is used, or a signature when the magtape is used.
Is embossed.
Has a name on the front.
Has an expiry date.
Has a CVV number.
Replacements usually have 2week lead time?
Can access the funds in your account it is linked to.
Transactions reflect almost immediately.

You can use either a credit card or cheque card for online purchases; as they both have the 4 required fields for online purchases:
1) Card number
2) Name as on card
3) expiry date as on card
4) CVV number on the back

The obvious difference between a cheque card and a credit card is that a cheque card does not have credit (although if the linked account has an overdraft, it can go into credit).

They said I will only get it on 11th May (1 Month Later) :D how long does their suppliers take to deliver stuff to them cause that is crazy long.

If it is from USA it should be 3 days judging from time it takes for my parcels to come from my Aunt in USA and couriered to my door.

@Reactor: Cheque cards sound great do you get charged more to use one or is it same charges as debit card?

AFAIK, for the US orders, they place orders from Amazon in bulk... maybe weekly? Then it has to get cleared at customs, which can take long.

Oh ok forgot about the dreaded customs, lucky my personal stuff never goes through it.

So I guess the 11th May can be worst case scenario, was hoping to get it on 25th
