'tapping/bugging' of cell phones

More to the point what do you know about it and who it houses and what its function is ?? (that is not contained in RICA )

If you read the links I provided, Im certain your questions will be answered. You will find the NCC falls outside the ambit of RICA and may very well be unconstitutional, but the fact remains that it continues to exist and operate.

"This will, for the first time, give a legal basis for the work of the National Communications Centre (NCC), an obscure, high tech facility set up in Gauteng during the 1990s. By 2008 it boasted a staff complement of some 300.

The NCC’s telcecommunications and computer equipment can intercept and analyse large volumes of voice and internet traffic, both indiscriminately by listening for keywords, and in a targeted way by focusing on individual phone numbers, email addresses and even voice prints.

To date, the NCC has operated outside the bounds of national legislation, including the Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-related Information Act (Rica), which allows interception only with a judge’s warrant. The NCC, has relied on the loophole that it supposedly intercepts “foreign” communications only, which is not regulated by domestic law."

I stated that all calls are subject to recording and analysis. You challenged me on this and I believe i have provided sufficient substantiation of my point. What is done with the material in a legal or otherwise manner is to be debated.
The fact remains SSA have the capability and that bulk electronic intercepts are done and have been for a long time.

Do you believe your calls are monitored (direct or indirectly)?

For all this to happen you would have to have access to all the cell phone and fixed line telephone company's infrastructure so in actual fact you are accusing the cell phone and fixed line telephone company's of being complicit in illegal interception .

"Every cellphone call and email in this country is recorded and filtered by a VAStech system by police intelligence. So yes you are being monitored."

The same RICA you quoted to me obliges SPs and ISPs to deliver traffic to the OIC and NCC piggybacks this. Perhaps you should read it more thoroughly. And you would only need interlink junction access as an aside.

I am not judging the legality of the action, I am stating the facts. The NSIA also absolves the SPs and ISPs of liability.

I am not making this up, its common knowledge and in the public domain

Well its easy to sort through the ****.

If they monitor our calls/communication already why is there no drop in crime?

Simple because they are not, case closed.

Or they are more concerned with other issues than with crime.

Dude, don't tell me if you an operator that if you hear about a rape, farm murder or see the signs of it that you will try and prevent it

Come on don't be so naive....

The amount of man power that goes into a system that can do this is so large that there is just no way it would go on without at least some reaction. I mean every person in this country knows at least on other person that was affected by crime.

It's not operators listening to every call. It's electronic system filtering for words of interest. Of interest to the government which is proven not to have the interests of the populace at heart.

succinctly put.

Its called Lawful Intercept. From what I understand, every operator the world over is obliged to enable it. Though this depends on the country's own laws

it there a way i can check if my cell phone is connecting to a actual "Vodacom/MTN" tower and not a "dummy" tower that has been set up to Trick my phone to connect to the "dummy" tower that only FW the call after it has leached off all the information?

Sorry OP, but why do you seem so paranoid? And yes there does exist software that can be used to monitor your calls, msgs, emails, even gps location. It can be relatively well hidden on your phone so that it does not show up in your apps. But, they would need acces to your phone to install this software as it cannot be dne remotely.

Are you absolutely sure of this? Your SIM suddenly stops working. You have to replace it. Now we talk about software embedded in your SIM...
