Tata Nexon heads to South Africa rebranded as Osprey - Team-BHP​

Tata Motors has announced that the Nexon compact SUV will be introduced in the South African market, where it will be rebranded as the Tata Osprey. It will be launched in Q3 of 2026.

According to Tata Motors, the name is inspired by the bird of prey found in parts of South Africa.

The Osprey is expected to be identical to the Nexon available in India. The carmaker has highlighted the fact that it was the first Indian car to receive a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

In India, the Nexon is available with two engine options. These include a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol paired with either a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, or a 7-speed DCA, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which is offered with either a 6-speed manual or AMT. There’s also a CNG version.

Tata Motors hasn’t revealed the specs of the Osprey.

Tata Osprey confirmed for South African launch in September​

Following July reports that the Tata Osprey would join the Indian manufacturer’s local line-up, Tata’s South African division has taken to Instagram to confirm when the compact SUV will arrive in the country.

Globally known as the Nexon in its home market, the Osprey will be positioned between the Punch and Curvv in Tata’s local line-up. The compact five-seater crossover measures 3 995mm in length, 1 804mm in width, and 1 620mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2 498mm. The Osprey sports a 208mm ground clearance. The firm claims a boot capacity of 382l.
