Watch Tata’s Nexon crossover undergo Global NCAP test

Global NCAP has released the results of its crash test of the new Tata Nexon, with the Indian brand’s latest crossover scoring four stars.

The Nexon tested here features dual front airbags, ABS, seatbelt pretensioners and Isofix child-seat anchor points.

Global NCAP awarded it four stars for adult occupant protection (citing “good protection for head and neck of driver and passenger and adequate protection for their chests”) and three stars for child occupant protection. Its five-door model’s bodyshell integrity was rated as “stable”.

“The four stars awarded to the Tata Nexon represent a very strong result from a major Indian car manufacturer,” said David Ward, secretary general of Global NCAP.

“This impressive safety performance is comfortably above the new crash test standards applied in India to new models since October 2017. It is very encouraging to see Tata aiming high for safety and a great example for others to follow. The race is clearly on for India’s first five-star car.”

The Tata Nexon, which competes with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Creta in India, was tipped to launch in South Africa in 2017, but has yet to make it to local shores.

Seems TATA wont be bringing in any new car models to SA. Was told this yesterday. At least not for the forseeable future. They are looking at getting a new distributor though for SA...but it is looking very uncertain :(

F it, who designed that rear end?

In the first set of #SaferCarsForIndia results for 2018, Global NCAP has released the result of the crash tests conducted on the recently launched Tata Nexon.

The Nexon, which is sold in its standard version with frontal double airbags, frontal double pretensioners, ABS brakes and ISOFIX anchorages, achieved a strong result of four stars for adult occupant protection and three stars for child occupant protection.

Tata released the Nexon with safety features that can offer four star adult occupant protection with good protection for head and neck of driver and passenger and adequate protection for their chests with a stable structure at 64km.h off set deformable barrier crash test.

The ISOFIX anchorages with ISOFIX Child Restraint Systems (CRS) made available by Tata, helped the model to achieve three stars for child occupant protection.

The rearward facing CRS installed with ISOFIX anchorages showed good protection to the 18 months old child, while the ISOFIX forwards facing installed CRS offered good protection for head and limited protection to the chest.

David Ward, Secretary General of Global NCAP said:

“The 4 stars awarded to the Tata Nexon represent a very strong result from a major Indian car manufacturer. This impressive safety performance is comfortably above the new crash test standards applied in India to new models since October 2017."

"It is very encouraging to see Tata aiming high for safety and a great example for others to follow. The race is clearly on for India’s first 5 star car!”

Dr Rohit Baluja, President of the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) said:

“I wish to congratulate Tata on this very good result. It shows that ‘Made in India’ and high levels of safety go together well."

"With excellent efforts like this from Tata and the new crash test standards now applied by the Indian Government, we are going to see a steady improvement in the safety of new cars across the country and this will help to make our roads safer. ”

Found this....but it is from last year. Not sure if there has been any new developments. I will maybe try and see if I can email Motus

Motus would like to continue distributing Tata cars and bakkies in South Africa, he adds. Motus and Tata are, however, currently locked in negotiations on the way forward for the importation and distribution of Tata cars and bakkies in the domestic market.

A lack of new product is the biggest reason for the recent drop in Tata sales, he notes.

The Tata Indica, Vista and Manza hatchbacks are all at the end of their life cycle.

“The Bolt medium hatchback will remain,” says Pereira.

New products forthcoming from Tata include the Tiago small hatch and Tata Nexon small SUV.

The Tiago will compete with the likes of the Renault Kwid, while the Nexon will face up to the popular EcoSport, for example, in what is becoming an increasingly popular, highly competitive segment of the local market.

In the light of the discussions around the way forward for the Tata brand, the launch dates of these vehicles are not set in stone, but may happen be in the next 12 months.

All-Electric Tata Nexon EV with 300 Km Range Per Charge Unveiled - the Quint

Tata Motors has unveiled its all-electric, indigenously built SUV, the Tata Nexon EV for which bookings open from 20 December.

The Tata Nexon EV will go on sale from January 2020 and is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 17 lakh ex-showroom.

The highlight of this electric SUV is that it has a range of 300 Km per charge, making it fairly practical for regular commuting within the city.

Tata says the Tata Nexon EV will get an 8-year or 1,60,000 Km warranty on the battery and electric motor, which should definitely give buyers some peace of mind. Hyundai also offers an 8-year warranty on the Kona electric SUV, while MG has a 7-year warranty on the ZS EV globally.

The Tata Nexon EV is available in three variants: XZ+, LUX and XM, with three colour options (including two-tone) - teal blue, silver and white.

The Tata Nexon EV gets an updated 'Impact 2.0' design, which has resulted in a slimmer, sleeker front-end. The headlamps are now twin-beams with LED daytime lamps in them.

On the inside, the Tata Nexon EV cabin comes with some new features and minor design updates. It has a 7-inch Harman infotainment system offering Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

758702

The Tata Nexon EV has a 129 PS permanent-magnet AC motor powered by a high capacity 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The motor produces 245 Nm of torque from a standstill, enabling the Nexon EV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed 9.9 seconds.

The EV comes with a battery pack that meets IP67 standards making it water and dustproof. This high-density battery pack is liquid-cooled to bear Indian conditions and sits under the floor of the vehicle.

It gets two driving modes - normal and sport. It has regenerative braking, hill ascent and descent assist and a creep feature for bumper-to-bumper traffic.

The Nexon EV can go 300 Km on a single charge and can be charged to 80 percent capacity in and hour using a DC Fast Charger. It can also be plugged into a 15-amp plug at home to slow charge it overnight. A mobile app helps keep track of vehicle features and locate charging stations.

Tata claims to have tested the Nexon EV for 1 million Km across the country. It is taking bookings for just Rs 21,000 from 20 December onward.

Tata Nexon EV: Key details surface - Autocar India

The Tata Nexon EV will make its world premiere this Thursday (19 Dec 2019) , in Mumbai. Before the official unveil, we now bring you key details on Tata’s first electric SUV:

Tata Nexon EV: Battery and power details
The Nexon EV, as reported earlier, will feature Tata’s Ziptron technology. Like nearly every electric vehicle currently available in the world, the e-SUV will have its battery mounted under the floor, which should help reduce the centre of gravity, thereby ensuring body roll is minimised compared to the standard petrol or diesel-powered Nexon.

The Nexon EV will feature a 28.8kWh battery pack that powers a 95kW/254Nm motor – the power figure converts roughly to 129hp.

Tata Nexon EV: Range and charging info
Based on the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), the Nexon EV will have a 300km range and come with fast-charging capability.

Sources tell us that the all-electric SUV will be able to gain about 80 percent charge in one hour with a DC fast charger, though it will take around 8-9 hours with a standard AC charger to attain 100 percent.

The e-SUV will also have a hill-assist function and an energy regeneration feature that will work while the vehicle is in coasting mode.

Tata hopes to assure buyers of the EV’s reliability by offering an 8 year/1,60,000km warranty as standard.

Tata Nexon EV: Dimensions and ground clearance
As reported by us earlier, the Nexon EV will be based on the Nexon facelift. The new EV SUV will be 3,995mm long, 1,811mm wide and 1,607mm high.

While it will continue to feature the same 2,498mm wheelbase as the pre-facelift Nexon, the EV will sit slightly lower to the ground with a ground clearance figure of 209mm instead of the standard SUV’s 215mm. This is due to a unique suspension calibration for the EV. At the rear, the SUV will feature a semi-independent suspension with torsion beam setup.

Tata Nexon EV: Variants and features list
The Nexon EV will most-likely come in two variants. Higher variants will come with equipment like automatic full-LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, power folding wing mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, a power sunroof, push-button start with a smart key and a wearable key, a Harman-sourced infotainment system with a rear view camera and park assist feature, eight speakers and Tata’s ConnectNext connectivity suite with voice command and other app-based features. It will also feature automatic control and dual-tone exterior paint combinations.

Tata Nexon EV: The rivals
Considering Tata Nexon EV prices are expected to be in the Rs 15 lakh region, buyers looking for a relatively affordable all-electric car or SUV by the end of 2020 will almost be spoiled for choice – the Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.72-23.90 lakh) will soon get a rival in the form of the MG ZS EV (Rs 22 lakh); Tata is working on the Altroz EV (which will share the Nexon EV’s Ziptron powertrain technology and be priced in the Rs 12 lakh region); and Mahindra’s got the eKUV, a direct rival to the Nexon EV in the form of the eXUV300 and the Ford Aspire-based electric sedan in the works.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki’s Futuro-E concept, which will preview a small EV SUV, will make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.
