I will test that out when I take my 2008 'CityRover' in to a TATA dealership service centre next month for its 150,000 km service (which includes the replacement of the cambelt / tensioner / idler pulley, water pump & thermostat)... ;)

I don't see many of these on the road anymore. and most of those look like a second hand toilet roll.

they don't last like the korean and chinese cars of similar age.

Pretty good pricing, although I would've liked to see 6 airbags at minimum on the XT models since the Vitz and Celerio have it across the range.

Affordable hatchback alert: new Tata Tiago launches with three exciting models in SA

There’s seemingly no end to the stream of new cars entering the South African market as witnessed at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit last week.

Indian carmaker Tata Motors (and owner of Jaguar Land Rover), a recent newcomer, has hit the ground running with the launch of their entry-level hatchback Tiago.

While the hatchback market may be playing second fiddle to small Crossovers, there’s definitely still an appetite for affordable and compact cars in that segment.

Starting at R184 900, the Tata Tiago certainly falls into that bracket.

Three options

The Tiago will be offered in three derivatives with varying levels of specification. The XM and XT are launching this month, while the XZ will be launched at a later date.

The XM comes with a 3.5-inch Next Generation Infotainment system, rear parking sensors and a fully digital instrument cluster.

The XT is upgraded with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, four speakers, Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold Control, a reverse camera and a multi-function steering wheel.

The range-topping XZ adds 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, wireless Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, HD Reverse Parking Digital Camera, climate control, cruise control, push button start, a new advanced fully digital cluster and LED headlamps.

Exterior

The exterior features LED daytime running lights, chrome accented foglamps, dual-tone roof, shark fin antenna and boomerang shaped taillights.

Interior

Inside, it gets a dual-tone interior, illuminated steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, melange seats, a height-adjustable driver seat, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and A & C USB charging ports.

Measuring 3.767 metres in length and 1.94 metres wide, boot space is said to be 242 litres.

The first shipment of Tata passenger cars has arrived in South Africa, and we can reveal local pricing for the firm’s entry-level compact SUV, the Punch.

Tata has officially re-entered the South African passenger-car market, with the Indian automaker’s first shipment of products having arrived on our shores. The company’s initial portfolio comprises the Tiago budget-oriented hatchback and a trio of crossover/SUVs – the Harrier flagship, Curvv, and the model you see here, the Punch compact SUV, which serves as the firm’s entry-level crossover/SUV.

2025 Tata Punch Price in SA

The five-strong local Tiago lineup is priced from R244 900 to R339 900. Pricing includes a two-year/45 000 km service plan and a warranty spanning five years or 125 000 km.

The Punch is powered by the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine as the Tiago, but gains subtle increases in power and torque for a total system output of 65 kW and 115 N.m – delivered to the front axle via either a five-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission (AMT). While Adventure+ trim is exclusively available with the former gearbox, Adventure+ S can also be had with the latter. Accomplished+ and Creative+ spec are only available with an AMT.

The Tata Punch serves as the smallest crossover in the Indian brand’s line-up as it begins its return to South Africa’s passenger-car market. Here’s what the Punch costs…

Tata is officially back in South Africa and its smallest crossover at launch is the Tata Punch. So, what will this diminutive model cost in Mzansi? Well, Tata has already confirmed the Punch line-up will comprise 5 derivatives at launch. Now, we finally have local pricing to share.

The portfolio kicks off with the Punch 1.2 Adventure 5MT for R244 900, which sees the newcomer positioned as one of the most affordable crossovers in SA’s new-vehicle market. In fact, at launch in early September 2025, only the Suzuki Ignis (from R237 900) has a lower starting price.


Upgrading to the Punch 1.2 Adventure+S 5MT pushes the price to R269 900, while opting for the Punch 1.2 Adventure+S 5AMT will cost you R288 900. The Punch 1.2 Accomplished+ 5AMT is priced at R309 900, while the Punch 1.2 Creative+ 5AMT tops the local line-up at R339 900. A 5-year/125 000 km warranty and a 3-year/45 000 km service plan are included in each case.

All variants of the Punch are powered by a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine, which directs 65 kW and 115 Nm to the front wheels through either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission (AMT) with the same number of gears. Tata claims a fuel consumption of between 5.3- and 5.6 L/100 km, depending on the transmission and trim level.
