tax return 2011

is this your bank details?

Yes, I manage to get the form by disabling Avast.

The only thing that puzzles me is that SARS has my banking details correct on my e-filing profile, it was incomplete on the return form. I updated it with the correct details - bank name, branch number, account type. The account number was correct.

I phoned SARS this morning - apparently the audit is done, but they have 30 WORKING days to affect payment :(

I checked, if i put my lease payment in as my car payments it show Sars will owe me money, if i leave it blank and only put in my km's i end up owing them which makes no sense to me. i mean i did business 70 000km's for the tax year.
When in doubt phone SARS. If you look at the guides there are factors to be used when claiming maintenance and interest is a given for the part where you were using the car for business.

Me: 1, SARS: 0 - Yippy ka yay mutha****rs, I will phone Ashlea Gardens and tell Justin Hawker what I think of their service.

Still nothing my side... I remember this happened about three years ago - they finished the audit but then were waiting for someone to sign it off... everything I phoned it was the same thing, another 30-days... I eventually only got it done by complaining to the SARS Monitoring Office - where it turned out they'd lost my papers or something - really hope I don't have to go through that again this year, I want to pay off my car before the 20th :(

rapid there is nothing you can do the monitoring office will only take complaints that are now 90 days old - and you have to show that the 90 days are up. you will have to sit and wait this one out unfortunately.

That long

Thanks... back in the office tomorrow - so I can have a better look if anything is required, but when I called yesterday they said everything was in order and the audit is complete, just needs payment sign-off or something...

Submitted the 1st.
Assessment issued the 3rd. I was selected for audit so I had to submit supporting documents.
Submitted supporting documents the 6th.
Refund received the 12th.

No problems at all.

Sigh...have to submit banking details at the SARS office :/
Can I give the documentation (bank statement, certified ID, utility bill) to my girlfriend to submit?

You can, just make sure you have copies of the utility bill for yourself. DO NOT give a posted bank statement, go to the bank and get a stamped statement or print the email one and take it to the bank to be stamped. I also had to verify banking details. They are taking the original utility bill and stamped bank statement to be scanned, and keep it at SARS. So be warned, YOU WILL NOT GET IT BACK!!

And for the love of all that is good PLEASE be first in line 8am when the flippen doors open, you will not be sorry. I waited from 12:35 until 16:45 before they helped me. They wasted my whole day.

How long between your Additional Assessment and them paying you?

LOL he said it all so be warned. SARS want what they want and nothing else. snail has now had it and is ready to smack anyone who mentions the word SARS. :D

Didn't get an additional assessment or any emails/sms from them. Just logged onto my internet banking this morning and noticed that my refund was in my account. I logged onto e-filing and nothing has changed either. It was probably since nothing changed from my original assesment.

Odd... I have an additional assessment and the original and they're the same... just no money :p

There's this damn fridge my girlfriend wants me to buy...and the dude has two guys coming to see it tonight... and I don't have the cash spare :p

EDIT:
I just checked now - last year my additional assessment was issued AFTER the refund.... guess I'm in for the long haul this time :( I suppose it could be who ends up assessing your submission.

This past tax year I've started doing some freelance IT work for a few companies and other random people on the side. Nothing fancy - it's just me, myself and I (no registered business name or VAT nr. or employees or leased properties or a team of accountants on 24x7 standby... heck, all my invoices were done in MS Word! :P)

I'm trying to figure out how exactly I should declare this income on eFiling. There is an option under "Local business, trade and professional income" but when I answer "Yes" there they want like 2 pages of extra info... stuff like turnover/sales figures, profit margins, depreciation values, balance statements and heaven knows what else. It just doesn't sound very relevant to the few thousand Rands of extra income I'm trying to declare.

Any other IT freelancers here in a similar situation? How did you declare yours? Do I just leave all these fields open and hope for the best? (yes, I'll obviously call SARS if I don't get an answer here)
