Wow, this is how you release some updates

Telegram is the only mass market messaging app with open source apps. Since 2013, this not only allows independent researchers to verify the integrity of end-to-end encryption, but also helps look for vulnerabilities (or backdoors

).

As of this update, Telegram becomes the first messaging app to allow you to independently verify that the code on GitHub is the exact same code that was used to build the app you downloaded from App Store or Google Play. FFS Whatsapp can I get dark mode already
It's an extremely difficult feature to implement, definitely isn't possible just to add a stylesheet with a flag to select the correct one.

I keep on forgetting that I'm using Telegram X. For a few years now. What is the main difference between the normal Telegram app and X, again? I can't remember why I switched to the X app. And is it still a good idea to use X or am I missing out.

If you opt into the beta, stay with X. Basically the two apps compete and X is the rewrite that's a bit faster, has some features that normal doesn't, like stickers was on X first before moving over.
I think extra features still include preview, bubble chat and a better music player. Not sure what else since I don't really use normal telegram.

Oh, better video compression on X, but you can pick resolution and quality on normal.

I like the new text sizes, the theme options, all the options Telegram gives. After the update I had that sensation again of wondering why everyone i know can't just use Telegram.. Their product -, UX - and dev - teams are awesome!

This would help if more people went over. Whatsapp is really messing around with adding useful features.

^^ My thoughts exactly. Telegram has had custom themes for 2 years now. Can't see how difficult it is to change the background and text colour in WA.

Now the next update they need is to add users to the system, even after all this fanfair about telegram being the best thing since sliced bread, no one seems to be using it seriously, everyone still prefers whatsapp

Except for one person, my entire contact list is on Telegram. Was all basically at the same time though, once some moved everyone did.

I assume it will be the same for most, most of my contact list are on Telegram, but none of them have started using it as their primary means of comms, but once the ball starts rolling I'm sure it will go crazy, much like what happened with whatsapp.

I'm not bothered though, Ill be fine either way

Whatsapp is a badly implemented chat client... For reasons that are stupid, they cannot have a standalone client on the PC. With Telegram you can avoid using a phone completely if you wish, you can run Telegram on a desktop exclusively. But no, WhatsApp relies on your phone staying online to work on desktop.. and that app is badly written.... it crashes a lot, and always complains "your phone is offline"

I only have my boss who refuses to use Telegram so I have WA installed just for him.

I started about a year ago if anyone sent me a WA and they have Telegram, I replied with Telegram. Most people are too lazy to continue the conversation back in WA. Also many people just keep adding messages to an established conversation, so they just keep using Telegram. Works well.
