I dont see why the cost of the R100 analogue line should be excluded in the price comparison. Telscum makes us pay it, so show it!

I agree! Now telkom will go and boast that the MyADSL survey found their 3Gb Do broadband product to be the cheapest. But hell, if I want it I have to pay the additional R100 because I don't have a telkom line at all. So please include the line rental as it is also unfair to compare it to Vodacom's HSDPA as they don't have any hidden charges. It is time to show telkom that the bottomline for the consumer includes the line rental price.

Let me rephrase the question: If I subscribe to the GO offering, can I then buy throughput from another ISP for use on my line?
Answer seems to be: No. Telkom will not be allowing GO users to authenticate with different credentials on the "GO" line.

This also implies that I cannot get more bandwidth once my 1 or 2 or 3 GB is consumed.

Answer [abbreviated] = You will pay R437.50. No matter what, even if you already have a line, even if you are already using that line for ADSL, and it's already patched in. YUCK.

Oh .. found on the order form [you have to unblock popups to see the order form] that you can:

- get a free modem and do a self install and still pay the R437.50. [i.e. you paid 437.50 for the modem]
or
- get a free modem and sign into a 24 month contract and a teklom teckie will do the installation for you. Exactly what an installation is, and what to expect from the techie, is not specified anywhere.

What exactly the free modem is, is also not specified anywhere.

If you already have a ADSL router/modem then they don't cater for you. Sorry.

Wish Telkom would bugger off. This is just to catch more people into getting a dsl line installed. So that by the time they roll out their pathetic excuse for IPTV they will have a bigger target market. by that time people will have gotten used to paying an arm and a leg for the dsl line, so an additional R 350.00 for IPTV won't feel that bad. It is yet again Telscum doing what they do best; setting the stage to rip people a bigger hole with their blessing.

How the hell can they claim this to be revolutionising BB! They still don't know what broadband is or how and what it is used for! Damit can someone please just get rid of the lot of them. They are truly pathetic.

This is difficult as these combined offerings are not easy to compare. How much is the Internet portion? Is there cross subsidization? How much is the closer section actually worth etc.
 
On the bottom of the table is a footnote:

* Excludes the R100-00 monthly line rental

Which if included paints a different picture
 
So if you include the R100.00 line rental, then you should also include the ISP cost?

Which paints an even bleaker picture

I agree, this should be included in the price. If it is compulsary it has to be included, end of story. By making the comparison like that you are no better that that idiot from Telkom giving massive reductions in price and by choice forgetting or excluding all the factors.

Redo this article with all costs included!
 
My comparison on getting ADSL from teklom:

My current teklom bill:
R 087.65 Line Rental
R 214.91 Line Rental 348 DSL
R 116.49 TIPA 3GB Shaped
R 097.84 TIPA 3GB Shaped
--------------------------
R 516.89 + Vat
--------------------------
R 589.26 for 3GB Shaped 384 account, I use about 5GB on that account.

So ... the DO offering:
1GB @ 348 for R279 + R99.92 [line rental + vat] = R378.92, for 1GB ... but not enough throughput.
2GB @ 512 for R364 + R99.92 [line rental + vat] = R463.92, for 2GB ... but not enough throughput.
3GB @ 1024 for R675 + R99.92 [line rental + vat] = R774.92, for 3GB ... waaaay too expensive.

So ... if teklom stop the TelkomInternet offering, i'm forced to move to a different ISP.

And why isn't there a 512K do option...actually scratch that why are there sub 1Mb speeds still on offer. 1Mb is the bare minimum to be called broadband overseas.
 
What are the top-up rates? What happens when you reach your cap - do you get the same soft cap as TelkomInternet ISP?
 
Just off the line from 10219, they reckon that with Do broadband you get access to shared bandwidth which could mean up to an extra half a gig free when you reach your cap. Also once you reach the hard cap you still get access to the major banking websites and email is still available. Sounds good to me, and I hate Telkom.
 
Telkom is simply continuing with their old practices. Same crap with different wrapping.

How is this a fair comparison with the R100 excluded? The table SHOULD read:

Service Price Speed (Mbps) Usage (GB) Cost/GB Cost/GB/Mbps
Do Broadband 3 * 675.00 4 3 258 65
Do Broadband 2 * 464.00 0.384 2 232 604
Do Broadband 1 * 379.00 0.384 1 379 987

Which still leaves the DoBroadband 3 faring quite well, but the others looking even more horrendously overpriced. The 4Mbps speed is the major factor here-how reliable a speed is that compared to the 1.8 offered by other providers? Would the picture still be the same if average true speeds were compared?
